Evgeni Malkin contract breakdown:

Year 1, $4M salary plus $4M signing bonus ($8M total)
Year 2, $6M salary
Year 3, $5.6M salary
Year 4, $1M salary plus $3.8M signing bonus ($4.8M total)

Plus FULL no-move clause throughout the deal

After all that drama and cash, I expect some production.

I’m ok with this. We’ll see if he makes it to year 4. I don’t think there was a better option at 2C despite his injury history.
Hextall did well to sign Letang, Malkin, Rust and Rakell for under 24 million when they could have easily fetched more in FA.
Now let’s see who gets moved out to free up some cap space. They still need 3 forwards.

That’s a lot of money and term for a 36 year old. I guess someone would have ponied that up tomorrow if Pittsburgh doesn’t didn’t. Free agency opening is an exciting day for fans and mostly a day of regret for GMs a few years down the road.

I’m sure someone would have given him 7 or 7.5 for less term.

Right now at least we have better goaltending than the Caps, who are currently projected to give up around 3000 goals with their current slate of tendies (at press time includes: Harvey the Invisible Rabbit and A Lot of Hope The Puck Doesn’t Go In).

VGK currently 20 million over the cap and Max P is rumored to be on the block.

Sens are the current front runner for Hollywood’s boi

Copp to Detroit

Campbell to Oilers….haha

Looks like they could get Kuemper

The St. Louis Blues and forward Robert Thomas have agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth approximately $64 million, The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford reports.

Thomas was already signed through 2022-23 at a cap hit of $2.8 million. He was due to become a pending restricted free agent if the Blues didn't sign him by next summer.

The 23-year-old had a major breakout season in 2021-22, posting 77 points - including 60 at even strength - in 72 games in a larger role in St. Louis' top six. Thomas settled into the Blues' No. 2 center role behind captain Ryan O'Reilly this past season, logging almost 19 minutes per contest.

When Thomas' new deal kicks in for the 2023-24 campaign, he'll be the Blues' highest-paid player. O'Reilly and longtime St. Louis winger Vladimir Tarasenko each make $7.5 million but are entering the final years of their respective contracts come October.

The Blues drafted Thomas 20th overall in 2017.

The Colorado Avalanche re-signed defenseman Josh Manson to a four-year deal with a cap hit of $4.5 million, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

The pact includes a no-trade clause for the first two seasons of the deal and a modified no-trade clause for the last two campaigns, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Manson, 30, joined the Avalanche from the Anaheim Ducks prior to the trade deadline. He chipped in with eight points in 20 playoff games including one game-winning goal to help Colorado claim the Stanley Cup.

The Illinois native logged two goals and five assists while averaging just over 17 minutes of ice time per contest in 22 regular-season games after being acquired by Colorado.

He put up a combined six goals and 10 assists in 67 contests for Anaheim and Colorado in 2021-22.

Selected by the Ducks in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, Manson has 120 career points in 475 NHL games.
