Yeah. I liked it, but certainly didn't love it nor really returned to it after my initial couple spins of it. Was a too little formulaic and nothing really stood out or grabbed me. The nostalgia of it all wasn't enough to keep it in rotation.

Yeah I’ve been close to an original a few times recently but even at the inflated price this is half the price of them so pretty happy. I don’t see the point in doubling up tbh and most of this 2000s stuff is only ever going to sound so good but of course you do you lol

I only consider doing it for like my top 5 or so favorite bands. For me Doves would fall into that category.

For starters the actual best "Christian Band" pre-dated all of these and the answer is undeniably : The 77's (sometimes as "The Seventy Sevens").

I won't pretend that the hot-take demon on my shoulder wasn't whispering "Say Stryper. Do it, Say Stryper" - but its not them at all. The 77s are THE answer.

Now some might chime in and say Petra, or Rez Band or Whiteheart or Undercover or The Choir.
Those into Metal winced when I mentioned Stryper and would chime in: Bloodgood, or Holy Soldier or Whitecross or Bride...etc.

For a time, when cassette tapes were all the rage, there were arguments in the evangelical circles that the 77's Island Records label-mates , U2, was a "Christian Band".

But The 77s are THE answer.

I'd probably start new listeners with 88 which is a live album and speaks to their musicianship and Rock n Roll bona fides starting at about 20 seconds into the album.

Sticks and Stones has my favorite song of theirs God Sends Quails, because of the bass intro and b/c it's Mike Roe's best guitar work on any song, IMO. Its not a banger but it fucking rules. But Sticks and Stones is a compilation of unreleased with some prior singles mixed in so it might not be the best place to start.

1994's Drowning with Land In Sight is probably THE fan favorite and has the best overall production [and also has backward masking of a profanity on one track.] but it may also be the S/T with concert staples: Do it For Love; I Cant Get Over It; The Lust, the Flesh, the Eyes & the Pride of Life and I Could Laugh.

Anything before the S/T dabbles in New Wave but has some bangers (I'm partial to Caught In an Unguarded Moment on All Fall Down and Denomination Blues on Ping Pong Over The Abyss.) I also really like Tom Tom Blues.

The 77s are undeniable. One could also make an argument for Vigilantes of Love or Sixteen Horsepower.
