Definitive Audiophile pressings

Funny enough, I bought mine from Canada a year or two ago. Jacket isn’t NM but the vinyl is pretty much perfect somehow. It is frustrating that they A) had poor QC on it and B) haven’t reused those plates. That pressing is cut HOT though and I love it
Haha nice, with the exchange rate we're just a giant country of discount vinyl for y'all. It does seem very odd they never reissued it. I've seen it around locally sealed several times but it's always about $250 CAD before taxes and I just can't take the chance for that price knowing how many were dodgy. But I'm so eager to hear it. I need someone to bring it over to my place. Actually maybe that's a terrible idea, maybe I don't need to know.

Yea I’d never pay that for a sealed copy with the issues the pressing had…real shame it wasn’t pressed better.

Aiiiiggt, I'm giving the 21 RKS a try. $35 with Radio Radio is better than $140 without in my books... WE SHALL SEE

Also I did a thing... I blame @The Baby's New Diaper

The tracklisting choices are weird for this record. The UK don't have Radio Radio. The US and Canadian do. The MOFI does. The weird Back To Black I have is the UK tracklist with Radio Radio tacked on the end. Anyway, the RKS is a good choice I think.

Oh for sure it was obvious, c'mon I think we all know each other well enough at this point to know that you're going to have to work pretty hard to offend me. So like, try harder next time.
I've so far got the 2016 BG and the 79 Mofi. I've heard this one is similar to the Mofi so I'm curious. I've honestly not really been let down by any of the early JP pressings that I've bought aside from a couple that weren't bad, but just didn't best other versions I have, so I'm really interested to see how this one sounds. But also I'm fully addicted to the JP packages with the Obi etc so the fact that this one is complete and in great shape just kinda made me do it. But like you alluded to I was also kinda waiting to see what the box set would entail. It entails not a whole lot of anything I'm interested in spending hundreds of dollars on sooooo here we go.

The 1973 Canadian Harvest I have is really good as well. Slightly better than the BG IMO, but both are good. I imagine the MOFI is a completely different experience though.

It's my third copy of this album and yeah I'm pretty much a walking vinyl collector cliché at this point.
Do you enjoy DSOTM a great deal? Is it something you listen to often? I have a $24 reissue and it’s good enough for me because I don’t listens to it enough to pay a bunch of money for a better copy but if it’s one of your faves than there is no shame to keep chasing that audiophile perfection dragon.

You can tell how early it is by @TenderLovingKiller® trying to talk sense into @Mather

I've found it's pretty common for UK records of that era to not have the big hit single on them in the UK, but for a track or two to be pulled for the NA releases to include the non-album single as a bigger selling point. It is interesting that different reissues have made different choices with what to include.

So an update on the original Damn The Torpedoes I ordered.

I had ordered an original Pinckneyville STERLING pressing, but it unfortunately got cancelled on me. No biggie. Since @Jbraswell mentioned that the Canadian pressing was good too, I ended up getting an original Canadian STERLING pressing instead. And saved a few bucks over the Pinckneyville.

I really lucked out on this copy. There isn't a single pop to be heard throughout. Completely clean. Sounds fantastic too.

I did some quick A/B comparisons with my Bellman reissue and here are a couple observations. The Bellman is damn good. Really doesn't need to be updraded. The Canadian STERLING is better I think. Pressing is definitely hotter and feels slightly more dynamic. Really shines at the high end where it seems crisper and detailed.

Some food for thought though - this original pressing cost me $33 canadian and it's pristine. So if you don't already own a Damn The Torpedoes, it's probably in the same price range as the reissue.
I went and ordered a Japanese og pressing of this one last night...
