NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

Absolute bullshit that Tkachuk isn't suspended for what is supposed to now be an automatic suspension. Now instigator calls in the last 5 minutes are going to be analyzed case by case and we all know how great that bunch of buffoons are with consistency.

This Shane Pinto situation in Ottawa is apparently taking a very unexpected turn. Rumors being reported in the French media (RDS) are suggesting the NHL is about to impose a 41 game suspension for betting (sources are LeBrun and Dreger).

What a stupid fucking league. No evidence he bet on NHL games, he doesn't have a contract, and everything about the product shoves sports gambling down everyone's throats at all times. Ridiculous.

The amount of gambling-related advertising we're getting since the last 3 years or so is ridiculous. We're even getting updates on various odds by commentators in segments during the game now.

That said, I'm not sure what sort of moral engagements players have to make with the league to play, whether there is a contract or not because I don't believe those are with the NHL but with specific teams (no?), but the players need to take responsibility in following them. But, yeah, on the topic of gambling in particular, the NHL is a joke when it comes to setting the example.

Also, to add a further point, if he had actually bet on NHL games, he'd be lucky if the suspension even included the possibility of playing in the NHL again in the future. It's a good thing for the kid it didn't go that far.

But why? He's currently a free agent and has no contract with an NHL team. Legally he's as unaffiliated with the league as you and I are.
