The NBA Thread

Luka dropping a triple double on the Mavs was sadly cathartic. I haven't watched much of the Mavs this year but I tuned in last night just to watch what I will never tune it to see again in my hometown except for when he rolls through with the Lakers. A franchise ruining decision.

So Nico trades a generational player for a really great player who is often injured who plays for you exactly one half before going out for multiple months. You then announce you're raising ticket prices. Now, Kyrie is out for the rest of the season and it's all lost. Just the most amazing fumble in GM history. Meanwhile, that generational talent you traded away because he was a lazy fatass who likes to drink and smoke has led his new team to 6 straight wins.

Mavs are cursed forever now.

Probably. Again, I'm just happy I got to see Dirk win one. The worst part is they were just in the finals last year and Luka wasn't the reason they lost it. Boston was just a flatly superior team and the rest of the squad failed to step up. Now, you have no Luka, Kyrie might be out for a year, and Anthony Davis is injury prone. They purposefully set the franchise on fire. It still makes no sense.

The new ownership group would rather make money than win championships.

I'm convinced they didn't watch a second of Mavs basketball before they decided they wanted to add a local team to the portfolio for the express purpose of getting a taxpayer funded arena that they could tack their casino onto. They own a plot of land in Irving that is adjacent to where Texas Stadium (former Cowboys stadium) used to be. I think the arena is all they care about and the last thing they wanted was to pay Luka the Supermax and add that to the profit/loss statement. They thought they could move him out and the fans would keep coming. They badly misread the sentiment of how the fans felt about Luka. It would be like trading away Dirk in 2007 after they didn't beat the Miami Heat. He was the heart of the franchise. Now the entire franchise has been lit on fire. You took a guy that had a 10 year window and traded it for a 3 year window for two players, if they can even stay healthy. People left in the 3rd quarter the other night. At some point, they'll just stop coming. So by all means, raise ticket prices! They gambled on Luka leaving and it has destroyed their franchise.

I am 100% a Bulls stan so understandable if you all feel differently, but the end of last nights Bulls-Lakers game was one of the wildest (and for me, greatest) endings to any sporting event I've ever seen.
It was crazy. Man, this has been a weird roller coaster of emotions. I was under the impression that The Bulls were tanking for a chance to get a high pick to pair one of these elite lottery picks with Buzelis in hopes to be legitimate title contenders going forward but over this win streak with the way Giddey has been playing, I am now thinking that they might give it a good run in the playoffs I don’t know when it happened but at some point I stop rooting for them to lose and now rooting for them to win.

Yea, that was my impression too. I really thought at the trade deadline they were packing it in. But super happy to see them turn it around, this has been fun.

I'm heading to Philly tomorrow for a double header of a Flyers and Sixers game. This seemed like a way better idea back in November when we made the plan
Fun seeing some Michkov fireworks. They must have hated Torts. At least Grimes is playing tonight but you might see some questionable benchings at the end of the game. What did you end up doing in between? Hang out at Xfinity Live? Go to the casino?
