Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

I'm telling you, these Arcams deserve more credit. For an AVR they absolutely put out "audiophile" 2 channel sound.

Oh and also... I just realized I did the room correction readings wrong. With Dirac you aim the mic at the ceiling, but with RoomPerfect you're supposed to aim the first listening spot reading at the system. I.... did not do this. So the room correction thinks my speakers are on my ceiling. This could explain some of the measurement weirdness. That being said, it still sounds great so haha uh... looking forward to re doing that again...
I’ve been pointing the mic at the ceiling since I was using a Behringer and REW for sub EQ, probably 17ish years. I would have done the exact same thing, and probably not have done back and read that I did it wrong. Nice catch!

Haha it's only because I've been reading through every single online Lyngdorf forum to find tips and happened across that one otherwise I'm not sure I would have noticed. That being said I don't know if it's the system opening up or just my ears getting used to it but streaming stuff from Tidal today, holy moly... The level of control this thing has, especially over the low end. I was right in my assumption that these speakers want more power. They sound totally different at low volumes now. Before I found low volume listening really flat, no dynamics or punch until you got up to 50 on the dial. Now there's actually stage and dynamics at low low volumes which is really great. It was my biggest complaint with my Arcam/L100 combo. But I can tell the extra 300 watts of power over the Arcam is really doing it's thing.

Yes the L100s love power. Feed them and rock out. Do you have 4 ohm taps with the new amp?

Damn, that looks fiddly. With the way its shaping up, though, seems like it's well worth the fuss! Has the improvement in your JBLs relaxed your speaker browsing?

Well the only reason I'm browsing is that I'm splitting my main system up and moving the turntable to my basement. It's a bigger and better listening space. But this is why I needed a new amp and new speakers. Simply because if I move the JBLs to the basement then I will be missing my left and rights in my upstairs system. And the amp downstairs is another Arcam that I use for home theatre, so I needed the new amp for the 2 channel. I really really like the JBLs so this isn't a replacement thing, it's more an addition. My plan is to actually have the option of putting the Fortes upstairs or downstairs depending on what I like better. The JBLs look nicer in my upstairs space so they may stay up there just because of that. So yes okay fine after this I will have 3 different full systems running in my house SHHHHHH DO NOT INSINUATE THIS IS MADNESS MY WIFE MAY HEAR YOU, SHE HAS POWERS I DO NOT WISH TO ANGER HER

Well, that certainly sounds like it’ll be something else once you’re finished.

And madness? What madness? Why anger? My wife has already told me if we get a house out here, we’re shooting for a listening room and a second system for meal music. You mean all women aren’t total gearheads? 🤪

My wife just laughs these days at my illness, I mean addiction, er, HOBBY! That’s it!

I have the main 2-ch system in my informal office (read: living room), a small 2-ch in my actual home office, the basement home theater, another small 2-ch setup in my equipment/work room, another old 2-ch in the garage, and a soundbar for the family room tv. And my daughter has the 2-ch system in her room that I got her for her bday. And I’m getting my son a system for his bday. Outside of bathrooms the only room that doesn’t have any type of system in it is my wife and I’s bedroom. Go figure.

I think mine has basically given up at this point. I've got a 100 inch projector screen with big powered event speakers on tripods and a Dual Digital turntable mixer in the back garage. 5.1 in wall surround in the livingroom with 100 inch screen and the TT, and then 7 speaker Atmos in the basement with a 135 inch screen and soon to have 9 speakers down there and the TT and new amp so there will be two different systems in that room. I think she's just washed her hands of the whole thing. She listens to music on a $80 Bluetooth speaker.

Yo can I bum $20, Mr. moneybags?

Ah. This stuff was acquired over a long period of time. But also I'm probably like 20 years older than you. 20 years ago I had a 5 CD changer and a base model Yamaha. And a boombox with a CD player in the top of it.
Curious: how old do you think I am?

Age does tend to amplify ones audio hardware choices.

At 35, I had a NAD preamp that was already 15 years old, a Proton amp I purchased from a mail order ad, a pair of Boston Acoustics tower speakers with 20 gauge wire inside, and a boombox with a CD player in the top of it.
