Vinyl Me Please Anthology

So uh any idea if and when the Coltrane box is shipping? I've waited basically 14 months now. What's funny is in my orders list it says "in stock" lol

Doubtful, but no one knows for sure. Stock dates on preorders were set on autopilot and ain’t no one there to (or possibly even knows how) fix them.

I would expect that everything on their Production Calendar showing as "delayed" will never see the light of day.

However, alone among the 'delayed' titles is the Coltrane box, which has been mastered, lacquers cut, plated and may even have been printed. It has not been pressed yet.

So, if that is right, one of two things will happen.

First - if VMP can get enough capital, they will get it pressed, and it will be their swan song.

Problem with that scenario is that it is mostly preordered and so no new cash will be coming in from it. Also, the free shipping on a box like this costs a bundle, and it may not be worth it for VMP any more.

Second - more likely - since this set is all done except for the actual pressing, when VMP is finally done, it will likely revert back to Universal or someone else will buy it from the bankruptcy trustee and put it out.

It seems to me very unlikely this will just die at such an advanced stage.

Last I heard ALS was pressing at RTI…who knows how far along it is or if VMP has the money to finish paying them…

From what I understand everything is done except the actiual pressing. Lacquers have been cut. I think even the sleeves are done.

Yes, the actual pressing is the thing. But with everything else done, it will happen - by someone.

Note that of all the titles listed as 'delayed', ALS is the only one that has had any physical elements produced. Hard to imagine that going to waste, someone will pick it up.

But if it is not VMP, any preorders are SOL.

well the orders listed as delayed aren't quite correct. I have already seen a few copies floating around of stuff like Joe Bataan Singin Some Soul and NWA. So those have already had art produced and approved. Whether or not full runs were pressed..I'm unsure.

Also, bandbox is an interesting case study for this. The people that bought their assets have slowly been fulfilling preorders if you pay the shipping and handling and show proof of purchase/they have the order numbers and emails associated with them.

My guess is that was part of the bankruptcy proceedings. We are still a long way from that stage with VMP as they are kind of acting like a zombie organization right now. Not fully dead, but not full of life either

Yea I believe VNYL agreed to try to send out stuff people paid for from bandbox. They are still a long way away from sending everything though. And they went belly up probably 2 years ago now?

No doubt the list is not correct.

It is entirely possible that a few titles were pressed, packaged and ready to go, and are sitting at the pressing plant awaiting payment.

If so, it would not be surprising if a few copies slipped out through the pressing plant back door.

I'm not too familiar with the bandbox situation. My limited understanding is that records had already been pressed, and whoever bought their assets was willing to send them out for S&H.

I wonder if VMP is in a similar boat and there are records pressed but held up by lack of payment, or if they're winding down enough for that to not be a widespread issue like it was for Bandbox.

If you're really cool you can purchase a limited edition "Express Yourself" subscription tier. They come with a totally unique nft badge that's limited to 500 of each. You can choose from:

1.) That Vinyl Guy: For $3345.78, you can pay an amount made up of playing speeds. Epic!
("I had to buy it!" Says @T************®, a regular poster on Needles & Groove, who asked not to be identified for fear of being mocked online for his purchase. "They're just jealous of me," he said, after once again making me swear I wouldn't print his name.)

2.) That Internet Guy: For $420.69, you can be a guy who shows their love for Elon Musk by sending us money in an amount made up of numbers a certain kind of guy still likes to giggle at after the age of 15. Send us money to prove to the poors that you're better than them. This is an add on fee to the normal subscription fee and only comes with your special That Internet Guy NFT, so the lawyers are making us insist that you know that these are bull shit and are not worth any money, at all, forever.
("Ha, stupid poor people. Nazi Nazi Nazi and some shit." Says Ye on X. We assume he would buy this.)

Sometimes people post just to give others a heads up about issues they’re experiencing. Sometimes people post because they’re wondering if others have been in the same situation and they aren’t sure what to expect. Assuming that the only possible reason that people post on here is because they’re angry and wanting to complain is not the move.

They never made any demands, they just asked a question. It’s wild that anyone on here would try to gaslight them into thinking that that’s unreasonable.
well hello hornet's nest... glad I could be of assistance. Member since 2016, recently un membered... I have, in total- reached out to VMP exactly 2 times in 9 years for shipment damage concerns. Still waiting on the replacement slip case. Yes, it is for a friend. It was for a birthday gift for a huge GD fan over 1 year ago... Yes, I waited over a year for it to be shipped. Yes, I have expectations. No, I am not a dude. Yes, I am an infrequent poster because I am not, traditionally, a complainer... I have enjoyed browsing this forum for insight and experiences of other VMP aficionados for several years and wonder how certain posters seem to have me "pegged". thanks.

I absolutely recommend ignoring the posters who have you pegged.
