  • Finally decided to save my vinyl budget this month and spend it on the MOFI Kind of Blue boxset. Didn’t want to settle for the Legacy press on Amazon, not on an album this iconic

@AnthonyI that’s been my philosophy as late, been spending my tip money week after week digging and coming home with okay pressings of great albums and as a result don’t listen to them much. Now just zeroing in on what I can nab from MoFi, AP, Speakers Corner, MM and more over the next couple of months. Been super fulfilling!
Anyone fancy trading a sealed Southernplaya (VMP) for Daniel Norgren Wooh Dang (VMP)?
Got my Khruangbin TTL exclusive today but my girlfriend asked me not to open it until she gets home from Russia on Friday. Oh, the things we do for love. 😩
I had to shut off this Chance record a little more than half way through. I really didn’t enjoy this album. Everything is just way too over the top and none of it really clicks the way it used to. Chance is starting to seem like a parody of himself

Anybody here own the AP pressing of Billie Holiday’s Songs For Distingue Lovers?
In the past three weeks I’ve gotten a promotion, engaged to my girlfriend of 3 years and a beautiful 2 month old husky rescue pup! Good things really do come in threes!
Anyone have any experience with Japanese Blue Note King Pressings? How do they sound?

They're generally very good. And can be had for relatively good prices.

I have a couple of them and they all sound very good. Instant buy if it's a decent price!
VMP Members: can someone buy me the Saxophone Collosus and I’ll venmo you? I cancelled my membership yesterday lol.

Your membership should still be open until the 1st. I cancelled mine but it doesn't take hold until the 1st, meaning I can still order.

Apparently it’s the same pressing available for black on amazon for $10 cheaper so I’d just go that route.
If VMP’s swaps aren’t on point this month they’re getting canceled after a year and a half of membership. Was going to swap for Big Bill Broonzy but it’s going for $12 on cogs for a NM edition, way cheaper than $27 for a mint version. I’ve been spending on this monthly membership to get albums I may like meanwhile the albums and classics I really really want aren’t on my shelves b/c VMP gets my money every month! 😩
I got the job guys! I start training on Monday, thank you for all the well wishes! Other dudes may have been more experienced but I had N&G on my side! WOO

@wokeupnew Going to be moving over to a new cafe, I've been a barista the past couple months but my current cafe doesn't make it easy for us to receive tips, new cafe pays me the same base but has tips built into the purchase process! Will definitely help build a cushion. Decided to step away from the tech industry and be a Barista while I learn digital product design and launch my own business.

@wokeupnew The corporate world was just always on, even when I was out of work I was still expected to work, it was killing me inside. So this gig has been awesome, just needed to make a littttle bit more money which I feel confident I will make now!
Should be hearing back tomorrow on a job I interviewed for on Tuesday, I've got a great feeling about it! Could really use this job, rent and record money has been tight the past couple months :(. I'm feeling its time for a breath of fresh air. New gig would be at a really cool, swanky cafe in LA, pays more, I get tips, AND I get to control the music my entire shift :). Send me your good energy peeps!

I am all about rooting for the bettering of people's lives and, sir, you have all of it from me. Right now I am playing Kayne West's The Glory for both of us(even if you don't like him, its a pumped up song)

    GREAT LUCK!

EDIT: May be tipsy...but equally enthused for you ;)

    EDIT: now It's Good Life.

@EmeryRK I sense we both have some good news coming our way very soon! Cheers Emery! I don't think you have anything to worry about when it comes to the personality test. Your interactions with others on this forum have shown that your character is strong and kind, that goes a long way! I'm wishing you the best of results my friend!

@EmeryRK A Good Life it is indeed, never against some celebratory Kanye! I'm playing some Dave Brubeck Digs Disney for us, whats got more positive energy than Dave covering Disney tunes?? 🤷‍♂️
This may seem super random to many but some of y’all Jazz heads might have my answer. On Duke Ellington’s Mood Indigo (Masterpieces version) and Black and Tan Fantasy (Newport version) there’s a horn that is manipulated to the point where it sounds like a man singing, shit you not in some cases it sounds like Louis Armstrong. Does anyone know how they extract such a sound from a horn? It’s mindbending on good speaks!

I'll have to go back and listen but I'm guessing it's probably a trumpet with a plunger (as in toilet plunger) mute. Here's a little video about it:

Check out Albert Ayler. He was known for breaking the from the traditional saxophone sound and found a much more raw sound as a result, which was often described as 'singing'. In fact, John Coltrane became obsessed with his spiritual sounds sounds ('Meditations' is a good example of this shift). This is too technical for me as a non instrument player, but Ayler used a 'plastic Fibrecane no. 4 reed' in his alto sax.
