For anybody curious, I think I’ve decided on the following Essential 1968 records to get next month: (1) White Album, (2) Astral Weeks (3) Cheap Thrills and (4) Merle Haggard’s Mama Tried.
I know the answer is “all of them” but in terms of priority/artistic and historical significance, for 1966 jazz, should I aim first for Shorter’s Speak No Evil, Hancock’s Maiden Voyage, or Coltrane’s Ascension? I like em all about the same.
I was all set to gloat that my $13 Roots album I got from Amazon already arrived. Then I opened the box. The sleeve is bent to hell. The record is scratched up.

I had a nice evening streaming Sgt. Pepper, The Doors, and Are You Experienced. Lukewarm take: Jimi Hendrix was the best out of the three overall. Ice water take: I’m looking forward to getting all 3 on vinyl.
I have cancelled my VMP and Secretly Society memberships. I'm pretty happy to save the money, and I am hopeful this will be a good step into getting my collection under control (I had zero records in February and I have 180-something now). I now have a more solid idea of what I want my collection to be. I may explore the PIF thread soon!
