I can't play this one without thinking of my Mom near the end. Every time I would run her out for some errands and would be playing this, she'd tell me how cute the cover was as it showed up on the dash.

Haley Heynderickx - I Need to Start a Garden

This pick was either sold out at reveal or sold out very quickly after reveal and Deb even picked an alternate. Fortunately, there was a repress.

This is the rare album that I fell in love with before my wife did and that she absolutely adored and just listened to constantly. One day, we’ll be able to buy the excellent new album on vinyl.

I can say for absolute certainty that I wouldn’t be on this forum rn if it wasnt for this album. I’ve told this story before but my love for music really started thanks to this album. So even if I’m not as into it now I’ll never not be thankful that I found it

On the topic of spoken word, the genre was a huge gateway to classic American punk for young me, thanks to Henry Rollins and Jello Biafra finding secondary careers in touring and recording spoken word shows. Many years later, I would find myself sharing a stage with Joey Shithead at a spoken word festival in Calgary.

Day 28: Thankful

The Artist Formerly Known as Prince - The Gold Experience

This was the only want on my list on that RSD. The one copy my local store got in that day had already been scooped up but the guy that got it overheard me talking to my dad about it & gave me his copy.

I’m thankful to that guy for letting me get this album and I’m sure he eventually got his since that store managed to get a few more in soon after that (and they stuck around for a while)

Sissoko, Segal, Parisien, Peirani - Les Égarés

When @Skalap brought us our second release from No Format (@Colonel_Angus had introduced us way back on Vol. 21), he also talked to the label about getting a discount which led a few of us to join their subscription service. I ordered the vinyl of this album but joined the sub for CDs (it’s a long story). Anyhow, so I own this in both formats.

Today, play a record that you have owned multiple copies of, bonus meaningless points if it is in different formats.

Les Egarés is more than a record. It’s play space, a locus of musical life, a poetic asylum inhabited by two twosomes who for years have excelled in the art of crossfertilising sounds and transcending genres. They are Ballaké Sissoko (kora) and Vincent Segal (cello) on the one hand and Vincent Peirani (accordion) and Émile Parisien (sax) on the other.

In the case of these magicians, 2 + 2 no longer makes 4, it makes 1. Because what they concoct is most definitely a unity of spirit, a single and...​
