The Latest News from Neptune - a Sun Ra thread

Sweet!
I gifted mine to myself, and it oversees the listening room. (And i noticed there’s an optical illusion here; the record rack does not block the speaker at all, but this photo gives the impression it does - Also, I wish I had a better space for listening to music — mine is comfortable and open but that corner isn’t ideal)

I like the sculpture, it goes well with Sunny! The plant is a nice touch, as is the vase.

You may all get a kick out of hearing Will Stewart's song "The Arkestra at Dreamland", which tells a true story about Sunny playing old Tuscaloosa bar The Chukker and their1000007008.jpg eating at famous ribshack Dreamland. It's on the new album he released today "Moon Winx" (a former motel in Tuscaloosa, AL pictured on the cover)

SUN RA – UNRELEASED STENCIL 10” – Unique stencilled discs featuring two unreleased live Sun Ra recordings from his heyday. "The Place of Five Points" (1985) and "U.F.O." (1978).

This was a release that wasn’t even remotely on my bucket list because it seemed completely impossible. I first hear Sun Ra when I was visiting my sister in NYC in 2003 and went to see The MC5 (or what was left of them) in Central Park and the Sun Ra Arkestra with Marshall Allen opened and I was blown away! I went down a deep deep rabbit hole with Sun Ra. It was my first real foray into jazz having grown up in Texas surrounded by NeoTraditional country, Punk, and Indie Rock. Sun Ra still represents everything I love about jazz… skronky, spacey, melodic and way out there.

This is a co-release with classic indie rock label forefathers, Bar/None Records from Hoboken, NJ.

Only 159 made, and everyone is unique! I made about 25 stencils and my handyman Tommy Michael and I spent two days out in the yard just getting wild with stencil and color combinations. I don’t have many copies for sale, so if they sell out here, check Bar/None’s site because they will also have some.
