April 2025 Spin Challenge – Well, this is puzzling…

In honor of the recently heightened patriotism across my country, let's see if I can self-impose the extra challenge of keeping to Canadian artists this month...

Day 1 – Spin any artist’s / band’s debut record

Wolf Parade "Apologies To The Queen Mary" (2005 Sub Pop; 2016 10th anniversary reissue)
Formed in Montreal, Wolf Parade released this fantastic debut at the height of the 2000's rock revival. Love the uneasy cacophony underlying their mix of bombastic, glammy post-punk with catchy lyrics along with their lack of fear in complementing their songs with synths.

Day 2 - It's International Guitar Month. Spin an album that includes a favorite guitarist(s) and if so inclined, tell us why they're a favorite.

Neil Young "Tonight's The Night" (1975 Reprise Japan)
Like @Poly-Rythmo, I'm going with icon Neil Young for this prompt. Hailing from Toronto, Neil is not only a great lyricist but also an amazing guitarist. This is my favorite album of his and I absolutely love this pressing, which uses the original western stampers with the quality of Japanese vinyl.

Day 3 - Spin any album or artist with a three word title / name

Dominique Fils-Aimé "Three Little Words" (2021 Ensoul Records)
How about the three word title "Three Little Words" for nailing this prompt? Plus a three-word name. Dominique is from Montreal. This album is the 3rd in a quadrology of records that explore African music and culture, which also includes Nameless, Stay Tuned! and Our Roots Run Deep. Interesting that the number of words in each title also matches the volume number in the series. This record concentrates on a more soulful sound.

Day 2 - Favorite Guitarist

St Vincent - Strange Mercy

Annie Clark is my favorite guitarist and it’s not even close. Seeing her perform live is especially awe inspiring
I saw her open for John Vanderslice back before Marry Me came out. She played solo, just her guitar and a little foot drum. Like everyone else there, I'd never heard of her, but once she started playing we were all riveted.
