I bought 3 records while reading this.

I did it… well…I know what 400 I am gonna pull. We’ll see how many I change my mind on before I get to the record store to sell.

Selling at a local instead of here and online for max $?

I find it best to pull the bandaid off quickly. However many you decide to get rid, don’t let them sit around too long or you will second guess yourself

@bdm105 yup! I want to move quick with the least amount of stress. My local has been fair with me in the past so I will give them first crack.

Selling albums individually online would likely get me more money but selling directly to my local makes up the difference by eliminating the stress, anxiety, and effort that goes into selling off large chunks of my collection. Well worth the trade off.

Yeah that's fair. I find the best locals are still only giving about 50-60% discogs value which is fair since they need meat on the bones. If I were in your shoes I would probably try and sell any big ticket things here and then go the local. N&G is at least easy
TenderLovingKiller®
TenderLovingKiller®
That’s true but the big ticket items offsets the value of stuff with minimal value.

The total low end value of the albums I am selling off is roughly $6,500.00. If I walk out with $6,000.00 in cash and credit, I will be very happy. I will ask for 5k in cash and $1,500 in credit. We will see how that goes.

Your local must give way better than mine would. You'd be looking at half of that from mine, regardless of how much they typically are worth. And mine won't do credit, which also makes no sense to me.
bdm105
bdm105
Assuming that's about 50% of what they're for sale on discogs you should be set!
Hemotep
Hemotep
Yeah, my local typically buys at 25-30% of what discogs rates are. Sometimes they surprise me in either direction, but that's the usual range.
bdm105
bdm105
@Hemotep that wouldn't be my local, at least for selling, if that's what they offered.

The last time I sold a couple years ago, I moved around 100 LPs for $1,500.00 ($1,000 in cash, $500 in credit) so $15 per album. We will see how it goes this time.

@bdm105 not many other options around here. I could go to Atlanta, but the two stores there are barely any better. One of which I don't think has enough money to buy more than a few records at a time anymore.
bdm105
bdm105
@TenderLovingKiller® with that many, if you don't get your price I'd call stores in Seattle and Portland/Vancouver. Some stores would drive the hour and change for it including my 2 locals I had there.

@Hemotep I'd sell online only then. That's too much of a hit IMO

TenderLovingKiller®
@Hemotep do you have record shows around your area? I have been to a few out here and talking with a few of the sellers about my collection and they have given me business cards and told me if I wanted to sell stuff to give them a call. Since I’ve had good luck at my local I haven’t explored it further but I am happy to have other options available if necessary.
TenderLovingKiller®
TenderLovingKiller®
@bdm105 if my local became stingy I would certainly explore that. There are a bunch of stores around me I could sell to (I think that makes the market fairly competitive for quality albums) but I have a good relationship with my local so I am gonna give them first dibs.

@TenderLovingKiller® I've considered it before, but never wanted to offload enough to make it worthwhile. I'm usually happy enough to sell the higher ticket items myself and take the loss on the rest for the convenience of it being close by.
