2nd Annual N&G 31 Days of Halloween (2020)

I've been binging Schittโ€™s Creek the last week or so...

Now that October is here I'm gonna get more serious with the horror.

Onibaba (1964)

I watched this a few weeks ago as my first foray into Japanese horror. Coming out of it, I wouldn't consider it as much of a horror movie as the only horror elements occur in the final third, but it is beautifully shot and creates an amazing ambient atmosphere. It's definitely a slow burner that excels while using minimal characters and environments.

04. Poltergeist - ๐Ÿ’€ ๐Ÿ’€
This is considered a classic so this is a controversial rating maybe? I've forgotten but I've seen this before. There's a very Steven Spielberg does horror vibe to it. Not that its necessarily a bad thing but it doesn't really strike horror in my heart. I think the acting could be better too. There are a few good scenes in it but besides that, it seems really outdated to me.

Alternative title: How I bought a super vacuum for my kid's closet and now she's missing

While a agree with some of what you say....I grew up watching this. The face peeling scene, while tame and cheesy by today's standards, scared the shit out of me when I was 5 years old watching this.

For sure! That scene I actually remember watching as a kid and it def spooked me out. But rewatching it now, it seems so out of context from the entire movie that I forgot it was actually in Poltergeist. For some odd reason, I always thought it was in Jacob's Ladder as a hallucination - unless there was a similar scene?

05. Insidious ๐Ÿ’€ ๐Ÿ’€ ๐Ÿ’€
I would say better than average! I liked it - so maybe like a 3.5 ๐Ÿ’€s. It's an interesting story full of astral projection / spirits / demons. Saw the ending from a mile away but was still fun getting there. Maybe a bit too many jump scares - I felt like they could have built the tension better if they didn't have to show you something creepy at the end of every buildup.

I'm casting my vote for a movie and it's sequel that I enjoyed probably more than I should have, lol.

The Babysitter (2017) ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€
In the spirit of Zombieland, this was a comedy-horror movie that I sat down to watch with my daughters not too long ago.......and it was fun :)

The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020) ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€
A sequel was recently released that wasn't too bad, expanded on the story of part 1 and was fun to watch as well..........minus one skull for the sequel due to the use of familiar horror movie tropes. Kudos on bringing the entire original cast back...........rumors of a 3rd have been floating around.

These are on my list too! Glad you liked them, they look fun

11. Alien (1979) ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€

Love it. I've always been a fan of Ridley Scott and always shocked that this was only his 2nd movie.

I don't watch any of the others around Halloween, as I don't consider them "horror" movies - although I haven't watched Alien: Covenant yet, I think I'd have to watch Prometheus again -and while I liked it, I haven't been in the mood to watch it again.

Watched this last night, it was actually pretty good and there are some great hints to the ending I didn't see coming :)

Who issued this?

Shout Factory

I pre-ordered early enough to get in on the poster and lithograph....the poster is a bit cheesy, but the lithograph is frameable.
