1990- a great music year for me. It was my first music discovery year. I had this good friend who had a sister in college, so she constantly dropped some knowledge. Oh...and 120 minutes. it was also the year I started driving so music became a more every day thing. It was a great year for what I consider the now forgotten term “college alternative rock”.

1. Pixies - bossanova
2. Depeche Mode - violator
3. Paul Simon- rhythm of the saints
4. Sunday’s - R, W, & A
5. Tribe called question- people’s...
6. Cowboy Junkies - trinity sessions

The above I still listen to with regularity. So the below are all HM:

Midnight Oil - blue sky mine
Sinead
Cocteau Twins
Public enemy
Pet Shop Boys - behavior
Connells
Toad the wet sprocket
Janes addiction

A lot of the other albums I got into later in life so their impact was not felt during the year 1990.

So happy Public Enemy was #1 and A Tribe Called Quest was #2 !!! 🎉🙌♥️

2011 was a year with so many experimental, abstract, innovative and unique debut records, with albums from James Blake, Death Grips, Shlohmo, The Weeknd, Nicolas Jaar, Tyler The, Creator etc

But for me, it was all Shabazz Palaces! Their debut album was next level abstract, futuristic, tribal, cerebral, magnetic, intellectual hip-hop!

  1. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up
  2. Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation
  3. Panda Bear - Tomboy
  4. Fucked Up - David Comes to Life
  5. Nicolas Jaar - Space is Only Noise
  6. OPN - Replica
  7. Danny Brown - XXX
  8. Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
  9. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
  10. EMA - Past Life Martyred Saints
This year is stacked, I really want to go another 10 deep and cant believe Frank, Kendrick, Hecker and the Caretaker didnt crack the top 10 as they are all great albums.
