Thank you @jamieanderson1968. That's cool you got to see so many live around that time. I consider myself lucky to be in the same boat (although I sure wish The Smiths were on the list of ones seen) as 1987 was my freshman yr in college. Halcyon days...
 
This is such a strong year!!! When I was reading through lists, I was getting downright indignant that INXS - Kick wasn't on each of them. But then I read through the lists more and realized that damn, really strong year because I couldn't find reason to disagree with the inclusion of the artists in place of INXS. I think this is the year I really started diving into the alternative stuff. That being said....

I thought Pontiac was '88 guys. I know discogs says 1987 but sometimes people create those listings based on the copyright date, which is not reliable. The only actual date I can fine is Jan 11 1988. It is a great album.

I dunno. Spotify has it at 1987 too. And Lyle’s website has it as 1987. But I’m seeing in places 1988, too.

This article seemed convincing but far from definitive proof. Funny how fuzzy some release dates are.

So though it’s easy to plot out Lovett’s early recording career, his first three albums were a mix of songs old and new, some simply remixed from that original demo, others re-recorded. “Lyle Lovett” came out in 1986 and nearly hit the Top 10 for country albums. He thought “Pontiac” would follow the next year, though it wasn’t released until 1988.

The only actual date I've seen is 1/11/88. It is on the Village Voice Pazz and Jop poll for '88 and they usually note albums from the previous year for that. They noted Midnight Oil, GNR, and George Michael as being '87 but not Lovett.
