Since the early 60s are pretty bare and we still have 60 to go after 61, I'm thinking of combining the two years. Thoughts?

Looking at RYM for inspiration, both years are loaded with jazz releases at the top lol. While I will be able to find my 10 favorite releases for both years without much trouble, I understand that others might not. I'm open to combining, but I prefer keeping the years separate :)

There's so many great jazz albums from '60 and '61 though. I could probably make a Top 25 from just '61. You're the one putting in the time though, so it's all good, but I'd rather keep them separate.
I'm good either way. It's just the voting in the other early 60s years is very minimal, so much so that many of those years are only top 10s instead of top 20s. So far you both are against the idea so we will keep them separate unless majority swings the other way.

Yeah not being into jazz it’s going to be a couple of very bare years, if I can rustle up anything, given that it’s before the explosion of the beat music.

1961

I’m having a dickens of a time narrowing it to 10, so I’m gonna stop trying.

1. John Coltrane - My Favorite Things
2. Patsy Cline - Showcase
3. Stan Getz - Focus
4. Harry Belafonte - Jump Up Calypso
5. John Coltrane - Ole Coltrane
6. Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane
7. The Shadows - The Shadows
8. Gil Evans Orchestra - Out of the Cool
9. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - A Night in Tunisia
10. Wes Montgomery - So Much Guitar
11. Frank Sinatra - Ring a Ding Ding
12. Etta James - The Second Time Around
13. Ray Charles - The Genius Sings the Blues

Honorable Mentions:
-Robert Johnson (more of a compilation of earlier recordings than an album)
-a bunch of other Ray Charles

EDIT:
-Oliver Nelson: The Blues and the Abstract Truth is worth a listen
-West Side Story WAS the best selling album of 1961. So that’s neat.

I got curious as to what was going on with rock and R&B music that year. Quite a bit! It was just mostly singles.

yeah, it seems like rock n roll albums weren’t ‘happening’ that much? Lots of highly rated jazz but i just don’t know enough of it to cast judgement
