Arrakis? More like Ar-ROCK-is! The April 2024 Record-Spinning Challenge Thread

17 - CHOAM: This corporation/cartel controls the economy of the universe. Play something from a major label.

Universal Music Group owns hundreds of others, many of whom would be considered major labels in their own right. They also have over 30% market share. This album is on Motown, one of the many subsidiary labels of UMG. And if the thumpers used beats like these, I think the sandworms would be way more chill.

The Meat Puppets - Forbidden Places

The early 90s were a strange time. Even prior to Nevermind dropping and creating a Alt Rock signing frenzy bands like Sonic Youth and The Meat Puppets were already dropping albums on major labels.

18 - Crysknife: This blade is made from the tooth of giant sandworms. Play something by a solo artist that was once part of a band.

This individual has the singular ability to say that they both fit this prompt and were also killed by a Crysknife.

R.E.M. "Up" (2023 Craft Recordings; 1998 Warner)
R.E.M. day! Craft is owned by Concord, who is owned by Universal. This is all confusing because it was originally released by Warner. And then the Discogs says "published by Sony". I'm not sure what is going on here, but one of the big 3 definitely released this. Maybe all of them? It's a conspiracy!
