Audio Hardware Deals: Speakers, Headphones, Turntables, Etc.

If you need headphones, get your wallet and trigger finger ready for Friday. $400 for the Sony noise canceling headphones bundled with the 6xx. That pricing is insane for those two sets. Retail on the pair is $570, but these will likely go fast. I honestly wish I had cash in hand for this, but life happens.

In a search for CHEAP wireless BT ear buds for running, I stumbled across these things on Amazon and have been pleasantly surprised! Obviously at this price point we aren't talking about Earth-shattering audiophile quality, but they are very listenable and perfect for strolling/jogging around town wire-free.

Cambridge CX Series 2 is officially out now, and the series 1 CXN v2 and CXC are now on sale.

Both units only got a paint job and price increase, so it’s very worth it to grab series 1 while you can. Extra PSA, black is going away, so if you want black units now is the time.

*if you have a local dealer, consider giving them the business before just clicking on a major online realtor.

There is no internal storage right? Need a NAS or UPnP? And any thoughts on the iOS app for it?

No internal storage on the CXN, but you can use a NAS or UPnP. I use it for streaming services, and as my digital hub. I use the app on Android, and I don't have any major issues with it. BUT, a major app update was announced with Series 2, so I'd imagine that will be updated in the next week or two. Beta tests have already been going on for a bit. The new units ship ready for the new app (StreamMagic).

I think if you're only streaming Tidal and local files, the Node 2i is a little cheaper and apparently pretty equal. But if you want to use the CXN for other things (transport, USB sticks, etc) then that's where the CXN stands out. I know I'm very happy with mine, and I'll be using it until I move up beyond the Cambridge chain. The price was right anyway, it's really right with the sales.

Can it be used as a Roon endpoint too? I think that’d make it a whole load more attractive for that kind of job. Beyond Sonos I hate most manufacturers own apps!

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with my Aries mixed with Roon although my Roon trial just ended and I'm trying to figure out if I want to reup or not. Roon + Tidal or Qobuz subscription gets to be pretty pricey.

Just ordered an open-box Sonos Port from Crutchfield - since my Ultradeck is going to be out of commission for a few weeks, I figured it's time to up my wireless DAC game.

Is the port the one you can hook your turntable up to to cast to other rooms? Crazy that there's an open box already--I thought it just came out.

Yeah. I'm not a Sonos guy, so I'm mostly getting it to have a higher-quality AirPlay node than the cheap AudioCast dongle I've got hanging off the back of my Jolida. There's also the Bluesound NODE, but I'm not sure having hi-res audio is worth the extra $200.

I’d never heard of the port so I looked it up. It must be the upgrade on the old connect, that thing had been out since forever. I like Sonos’ interface (I have the playbase and 2 play 1 as a tv solution). The lack of hi res was a deal breaker for me though.

Yeah, it's an update of the Connect.

I don't use any services that support hi-res, so I wasn't really willing to pay the premium required to get a nicer unit.

No that’s fair, I use Qobuz and have a decent amount of hi res files and if you’re not paying for hi res you’re likely not going to pay for Roon either and Sonos’ interface is the best Ive used by a distance outside of Roon.

I was a bit excited about the Port since theoretically I could connect my turntable to it and play it in multiple rooms in my apartment. I've been trying to find a solution to do multiroom turntable (I know it degrades the sound quality...but sometimes when I'm doing chores and things around the apartment I like having music playing in all of the rooms...) But since I don't have Sonos speakers, not sure the Port would even work as I would want. It has seemed to be a trickier situation than I hoped so I just gave up after awhile.
