Best Music of 2020

I think this is my new SOTY (for now). Also why was I slow to listen this album? It ticks all my boxes. Indie Pop, Dream Pop, a little electronic, light airy vocals. ITS GOOD.

If you were slow to get to this song (and new album it's on), does that mean you haven't listened to their previous album Willowbank? Because that album is incredible. Atm Willowbank is better than the new one for me, but that could change with more listens to the new one, time will tell.

So, yesterday when I downloaded their new album, I was syncing the mp3s to my phone (I refuse to stream), when I saw that I also had Willowbank in my iTunes library. I must have downloaded it and listened to it maybe only once. I don’t remember downloading it but that was 3 years ago. I plan on listening to it today, if you think it’s better that has me pretty excited!

new Four Tet is sensational (as usual), too bad the record won't come out until the end of April. in the meantime, I think I streamed it about three dozen times already

agreed on Four Tet. I've been on a big electronic bend the past few weeks...new Tycho is beautiful...new Nicolas Jaar is meant for some dark space...looking forward to full efforts from Emancipator and Polish Ambassador

Has A) rock music simply gotten less interesting in the past couple of years or is B) the guy who grew up worshiping early Modest Mouse, Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead (not to mention underground hip-hop) just turning into a pop queen at age 33? Like, the college (05-09) version of me would be flabbergasted by this list.

1) Grimes- Miss Anthroposcene [indie electronica / pop]
2) Porridge Radio- Every Bad [rock]
3) Caribou- Suddenly [electronic]
4) Dua Lipa: Future Nostalgia (pop)
5) Yaeji: What We Drew (experimental electronica)

6) Moses Boyd- Dark Matter [jazz / acid house] (thanks guys)
.
7) Yves Tumor: Heaven to a Tortured Mind (impossible to put a genre on)
8) Nicolas Jaar- Cenizas [electronica]
9) Jay Electronica: A Written Testimony [hip-hop]

10) Moses Sumney- grae: Part 1[experimental r&b]
11) Allie X: Cape God [pop]
.
12) R.A.P. Ferreria: Purple Moonlit Pages [hip-hop]
13) A.A.L: 2017-19 [techno]
14) Four Tet: Sixteen Oceans [electronic]

I could see it becoming my album of the year honestly. And I didn't listen to pop until Grimes put out Art Angles... (after which its mostly been art pop-- whereas Dua is more-so that @Teeeee bubblegum bread and butter).

For the record: Grimes, Jaar and Kendrick are my holy trinity of modern music. So maybe I'll get lucky and Kung-Fu Kenny will drop something before the end of the year.

This is how I'm feeling after the first quarter of 2020:

Albums I already love:
-Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
-Monophonics - It’s Only Us
-Tall Tall Trees - A Wave of Golden Things
-Jay Electronica - A Written Testimony
-Khruangbin & Leon Bridges - Texas Sun
-Childish Gambino - 3.15.20

Albums I'm enjoying but need to spend more time with:
-The Weeknd - After Hours
-Moses Sumney - Grae
-Caroline Rose - Superstar
-Marcus King - El Dorado

Most anticipated upcoming releases:
-Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 4
-SZA
-Adele
-Nicole Atkins - Italian Ice
-Sam Smith - To Die For

Anyone else struggling to see what is extremely remarkable about the new Waxahatchee album? I'm seeing everyone say "this is the best album of the year", "outstanding", "best Waxahatchee album, easily"

And I'm just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's a solid alt-country pop album. I'd probably give it a 8/10 right now, but I don't get the overall acclaim.

Samsies. But, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I'm a notorious hater of most anything that starts getting too twangy whether that be the Grateful Dead, Wilco or Garth Brooks so...

The Yaeji mixtape that dropped today (don't know why that's the labeling she's chosen for her debut LP) is solid to excellent to AOTY material. Time will tell.

Either way, it continues the trend of this being a stellar year for electronic music. Especially because that A.A.L has finally clicked (thanks jazzercise).
