Ch Ch Ch Changes! - David Bowie Talk

I am excited, though I have a bootleg of all the tracks. His commentary is pretty funny. I am surprised that the estate and website don't do special editions only available as a pre-order through the website. As far as I can remember, they only did this with No Plan over the last few year.

Still waiting for word on the next boxset.

Very cool, been wanting this on vinyl for a while :)

I have to watch that VH1 special.
Where is that next boxset?

Has anyone else been seeing stuff about this Stardust movie all over the place? I didn't even know this was a thing that was happening until like three days ago and now I can't stop seeing news about it.

I am a bit torn by it. I like Johnny Flynn as a musician but I don't hold much hope for the movie. That said, he looks Bowie-esque in his bittity boppity hat

So you think David Bowie has a discography that has at least 10 amazing albums? That's pretty amazing!

I think he has an amazing discography that has nearer to 20 great albums...

I’m just willing to whittle it to a top 10! I know @Lee Newman @Murfocakes and no doubt a good few others will have views on this too and they won’t completely agree with me on the 10 I pick!

Top 10 Bowie

1. Low
2. Hunky Dory
3. Station to Station
4. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
5. Young Americans (I think this being so high is probably my hottest take)
6. Blackstar
7. “Heroes”
8. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)
9. Lodger
10. Let’s Dance

Well Murfocakes is interesting because his favourite Prince album is "Parade", an album that hardly features on people's top 3 Prince albums. And his favourite Lou Reed album is "Blue Mask". Before you know it, he'll be placing "Diamond Dogs" as the best Bowie album lol

Lee Newman, i never knew he was a huge bowie fan! I know he's also a big Prince fan, but never knew he loved Bowie! Keen to see what his favourite Bowie albums are!!!

I think with Bowie the "problem" if you want to call it that, is the steep drop off in "fan" appreciation after the popular/hits. Legacy is pretty close to containing all the cuts that were popular, fan favorites, etc... but there was so much more to his discography than those tracks.

Loads of people love diamond dogs. It’s a concept album based around a failed attempt to do a musical based on Orwell’s 1989. It has great songs (Rebel Rebel is a definitive Bowie song) but it doesn’t do it for me. Not that it’s bad but in a stellar discography that can lead to people saying “why isn’t it higher than x” whilst forgetting rest are all brilliant too. It is a lot of people very favourite Bowie album.

Your top four albums are David Bowie's most critically acclaimed albums I'd say, just by looking at Wikipedia and rateyourmusic.

I knew "Blackstar" was going to rank high as well! I just knew it!!! Absolutely incredible how Bowie made that album 45 years after "Hunky Dory", your second favourite Bowie album. Just mind-blowing!!!

I agree with a couple of caveats. The 80s after Lets Dance were not a great period for him. The phase from Hunky Dory to Let’s Dance is so strong that it’s going to dominate all the same because even though he did great things later, few were that great!
