They just repressed 4 titles. Quite a few are getting the supervinyl treatment (in a silent way is not). Bitches brew will only be a one step and so will sketches of Spain. Another reason to get In A Silent Way. It hasn’t been confirmed for any other MoFi releases and VMP is doing a Miles anthology next year so wondering if MoFi lost the license and this is their last hurrah on that one
I've heard the EMI 100 version from the 90s is pretty great, (what a great, forgotten reissue series) and there was a famous Ryko Analog DMM from the early 90s too. IMO the 2017 beats the original US pressing, but I've heard the OG UK is better.
I'm pretty sure there is an 80 page thread on the SHF about every Hunky Dory pressing. I'm pretty happy with all of the 2016-17 Bowie reissues after having heard original US pressings of each. The only original US pressings I spin instead of my reissues are Aladdin Sane, and occasionally Low.
Yeah I checked that one out. It's like $400 NM so I think I gotta pass. There are some Rykos around but I can't find much info on them or whether the clear US is better or worse than the black Canada press. There's an Italian press people seem to like as well. But with good reason this album tends to be one of Bowies most expensive...

Yeah that is probably the weakest sounding mastering of the series, I was expecting the original US to be a significant upgrade but it is pretty lacking in dynamics and brightness as well comparatively. I haven't tried dishing out big bucks for a pressing like the fancy 90s ones.

Yeah I'm very much looking at the whole diminishing returns situation on this one. I know this record isn't exactly a sonic masterpiece so I'm not certain it's worth shelling out to try to better the 2017. The Rykos are within reach as are the Italian ones. Buuuuut... I dunno...

Haven’t heard a good US pressing and I’ve had quite a few over the last ten years. They sound fine but not fantastic. Never picked up the most recent reissue though and UK originals are hard to find a clean copy at a good price.

Yeah that's what I feel about the 2017, fine but not fantastic. But I ain't shelling out for that EMI100 @ $400 so I may just live with it. Even the 2nd and 3rd JPs are up over $100+.

The early Japanese pressings sound good if you can spot one at a reasonable price. There's some value to be had if you don't need an OBI.
I've mentioned it before but this 80's repress is totally under the radar, a Bilbo mastering, you can get a mint copy for about £25 and totally smokes the modern re-issues.
It's hard to find a good sounding record, especially when you have no idea where to start. Should I buy a US version? UK? German? Is a first pressing essential and worth the money? WHICH first pressing? Or if there's a better reissue, which one of those? And in the end, will it even

Thanks! I do see that there is a linked other pressing that says it's actually the Bilbo copy but I'd imagine in actuality they're mixed in together with this release year. But that one you linked doesn't actually have his name in the deadwax. Yours has the Bilbo etching?

Strangely enough the separate Bilbo listing has around the same median value however there's like WAY less of them of course. But either way that's good info thanks, I'll keep my eyes open. The only reason I ask is that if yours sounds great and doesn't have the Bilbo etching then I'll keep an eye out for both versions. Makes it easier.
