Definitive Audiophile pressings

This is one impressive title.
Chico Freeman – Spirit Sensitive

The recording is about as 3D as you can imagine.

Tape Machines: An Ampex 440, 8-track, operating at 15 ips, was the mastering deck, and an Ampex ATR 102, operating at 30 ips, was the mixdown deck.

Microphones: An Electrovoice RE 20 was used for the sax (it captures the robust sound of the instrument and Chico liked it) and assorted AKG condenser and Beyer ribbon mice were used for the other instruments.

Mastered at The Mastering Lab with Tube Electronics by Gavin Lurssen and Ron Lewter

Just splurged on VU’s Loaded 45 RPM pressing. It’s actually kind of funny hearing this album in audiophile format. It sounds really damn good for what it is and the best the Velvets will ever sound. Just definitely not what I think of when I reach for any of their albums. I’ll have to throw on my OG and see how it compares but from memory, this 45 is way way more dynamic.

I picked it up too, about a month ago (it was in the same order as my MOFI Abraxas). I didn't mention it because I have nothing to compare this pressing to. It's odd - it sounds good, but given the quality of the source material, it's definitely limited compared to the other Atlantic 75's I picked up. Anyway, looking forward to your comparison.

Ok so I got out my OG copy and spun it and I must say that I forgot how good it actually sounded. I have a Monarch pressing from 1970 https://www.discogs.com/release/5106085-The-Velvet-Underground-Loaded

Honestly, the 45 is not a huge improvement! I take back my way more dynamic first impression. The 45 is slightly more dynamic than the OG. I think there’s slightly less compression on the 45. It’s also pressed on dead silent vinyl. Where it shines is the lack of inner groove distortion that is somewhat present on the OG. YYMV!

I have the earlier press of the AP and it’s so damn good

Do you have Hot Buttered Soul? Thoughts? I’ve read all the comments on Discogs so have a good sense. But curious about experiences here.
I have it and at the discount I think it's well worth the cost. It pretty handily beats the Craft wide release from a few years ago. It's not pumped up at all in terms of bass etc so it's a pretty classic sound that may have you wanting for more low end etc but it's faithful to the original mix.
