The original press can be had cheap and it sounds fantastic. I have that and the 1980 MOFI press and the difference is negligible.I actually have that same one and don't think it's that great. Mine is somewhat noisey. Perhaps I just got a bad one.
Just get the MOFI for ...THREE HUNDRED NINETY NINE DOLLARS, or the MOFI One Step for FIVE HUNDRED FORTY NINE DOLLARS...Any idea whether this Rhino reissue of The Nightfly, release date March 26, will use the Chris Bellman cut? Any opinions on those earlier versions by CB?

Probably. They should do a better job communicating but it has only been a week.Per the suggestion in this thread, I bought this Kid A on Discogs, and I paid for it on Jan 26. So far no shipping details or any message from the seller. I sent a message yesterday to ask about it. This is the longest I've waited for a Discogs deal to ship. Am I wrong to think it's unreasonable?
Not particularly unreasonable, but some sellers are only shipping once a week and limiting trips to the post office due to COVID. I’d give it a couple more days and then hit the “seller not responding” button if they don’t get back.Per the suggestion in this thread, I bought this Kid A on Discogs, and I paid for it on Jan 26. Not sure about the Rhino, but this is another one where an OG or early pressing is going to sound great if it's in good condition.Any idea whether this Rhino reissue of The Nightfly, release date March 26, will use the Chris Bellman cut? Any opinions on those earlier versions by CB?

I have this pressing and it's pretty impressive.

I gotta agree with the others, while I would love to hear the MoFi pressing, I have an OG that sounds fantastic. There are 3 albums that always jump in my head for OG quality on the cheap, Aja would be one, Brothers in Arms and I Robot would be the others, finding a clean OG of any of these isn't that hard and they're reasonably priced.
I'm finding the Quality over Quantity rule to have a sub section called "upgrade must be staggeringly better", because while I would love the MoFi of Aja, as stated, the early pressings are stellar, I really should put some money towards albums I don't have
This is what I have at the moment -

PS - There are always exceptions to the rules.
My Canadian OG (I bought it in '86) of Colour of Spring is one of my pride possessions. It is one of the records I would grab if there was a fire in the house. I have 2017 version of It's My Life on my way to replace my very beat up 80s copy. I also need to upgrade my copy of Spirit of Eden. Damn I hate this thread
Hard to say. To be fair, it has been a while since I’ve listened to it, so perhaps I’m misrememberingI actually have that same one and don't think it's that great. Mine is somewhat noisey. Perhaps I just got a bad one.
This looks amazing and the pressing details are magnificent for this release!I think this will qualify as "audiophile," and pre-orders are up at LiTA (as distributor): Toshiyuki Miyama & The New Herd - Tsuchi No Ne (Sound of the Earth) | Light In The Attic Records
I'd never heard of this until today but just checked it out on Spotify and really enjoyed it. Here are the highlights for this forum:
- 180gram HQ press at RTI
- Remastered from the 1st generation Nippon Columbia master tape
- Lacquer cut by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Studio)
- Old school style tip-on gatefold jacket with OBI strip
I didn’t really realize that they still did 200g! Thought they discontinued it awhile ago!Elusive disc contacted me about a pre order and apparently AP are discontinuing 200g vinyl and from now on will be pressing only on 180G. So those who don't think it's a massive gimmick might need to fill your boots.

Please note I am repeating the last part of my comment. Damn this thread. The Parlophone SOE is still available, so you should jump on that, shouldn't be too expensive and comes with a DVD-A .
Yea I think that’s the only benefit. Some of my really thin 70s pressings are among the best sounding records I ownThey could press at 120g and it’d still sound exactly the same. Weight is the biggest gimmick out there!
Edit: I suppose given how shit pressings can be these days the one upside is that it’s probably less likely to warp.
Apparently not. The second part of the email is that AP has a stack of Doors represses at the factory and ready to go out... on 180g vinyl of courseI didn’t really realize that they still did 200g! Thought they discontinued it awhile ago!
