Definitive Audiophile pressings

I had the Classic stereo 33, it was good at the time (there really weren't any other choices) but the Mofi is, IMO, much better. My go-to would either be the digital 24/192 or the KG mono vinyl.
Interesting. I have to listen to the MoFi again...I like it but wasn't completely blown away by it last time I listened.

I personally preferred the Classic stereo to any copy I heard. Didn’t help that my MoFi copy was riddled with surface noise and distortion. I’m excited to see what the UHQR will be like!

You and @Academy are in for a treat once you blast it.

@Academy

I decided to spin "Reckoner" on headphones before heading to bed and.... holy shit!! Pressing is quiet, dynamic, soundstage is wide and detailed but never harsh and that vinyl warmth is present throughout. I heard details in there I never noticed even on the CD. This has to be the defining way to listen to In Rainbows.

erc is back as well as the drama

and he really needs to fix the audio

Selling these at $550 is insane. There's no way any of these are remotely worth it, even if it sounded amazing. Selling albums at $550 is just begging for any tiny flaw to seem that much bigger. I can't believe how quickly these all sell out too.

Also, I don't really see the drama in this...he says it sounds good but just paying $550 isn't good value for a record...which is something any of us could have said.

Yup. They sell out because there's one born every minute.

I saw a guy boasting on the Huff board about spending $10,000 on a one-off Steven Wilson set. The minute he was born, he was the one for that minute.

Having money to blow just makes them worse.

The guy in the video is right...this particular product is just a manufactured collectible. There are gonna be 300 people who are rich and consider themselves audiophiles who will say $550 is not much money and they'll buy it to be one of 300 people in the world to have a copy.

@MikeH a year from now: $550 isn’t that bad. I wish I would have purchased that Mal Waldron LP at retail when I had a chance.

I think the $10k went to charity, at least, right?? Not suggesting that's a reason to talk about it publicly, but, if it did go to charity, I think there was at least an upside and some genuine generosity.

I have mentioned this before but there is a really nice guy on Instagram who posts some really great stuff and he has bought every single ERC jazz release to date, including the 2 cover variants of the Prestige Coltrane album (red & yellow). I cannot fathom why anyone would pay that amount of money for reissues, he could have bought the original pressing in the best condition multiple times over.

"Audiophile" pressings are starting to mirror how much you spend on gear, there is a point of diminishing return ;)

The price point is crazy, putting my collector hat on for a sec, if I were to ever drop that kind of money on an album it would have to be a rare original pressing of something not a new repress. I would consider $100-200 pretty much the max price for a new retail "high end" album repress/remaster.
