Btw, Mike! Dunno where you typically sell to, but I’d definitely recommend Academy, either in Greenpoint or the LES. And if you have any punk/hardcore or hip hip, Limited To One on 10th St. Very fair prices.

Yea I wish I had gone down the Kevin Gray rabbit hole before a lot of his work has skyrocketed in price. This was the first copy I had seen under $100 in the past year or so.Man, I got mine for a great deal. I agree it sounds great, but mine is pretty noisy.

Yea—Academy is a few blocks away from me. They are fair on the records that actually have value and that they can sell. I sold them a huge lot of my stuff over the summer and they gave me more than I thought they would. It’s more the stuff I have at home that I don’t want anymore that they low ball me on. And I don’t blame them. The stuff I wanna sell isn’t really stuff they can easily move. Sometimes it’s just worth it for me to sell those records online. I never have issues selling stuff on eBay or discogs for solid Academy rules though. They are my go to. Record Grouch is alright too but I don’t go there as much. Dream Fishing Tackle is the one that not as many people know about...worth checking out sometime if you’re ever in greenpoint. Their prices aren’t great but they always have stuff I can never find anywhere else and have a great jazz and classic rock selection

Yes! I typically didn’t have the patience for Dream, but there are some finds to be had if you have a couple hours to dig. That’s awesome that you live in GP - I was on Freeman St before I moved outta the city. I still have a rehearsal space in GP, I will be back! Let’s hang when that happens.

How does the 2003 DSOTM match up to the 2016 Bernie if any of you guys have heard both? Does it blow it away? I always wanted to get an original UK or even the 78 Japanese Pro Use pressing which is why I grabbed the 2016 to hold me over until I can get one of those possibly at a decent deal.
I have the MoFi of DSOTM which is very solid but never felt "definitive" plus it's had A LOT of use at this point. I got the 2016 and really liked it but I need to give it another listen soon since I have a better cartridge now.

Both are good. I kept my KG cut even when I got the newer Bernie cut, more because I can't get rid of records and have turned into a hoarder more than there being a great difference between the two.
I'd say get whichever you can.
I also have 2 copies of the MoFi - and both are better than that one.

I’ve heard such mixed things about the MoFi pressing of it. I was between that and the KG 2003 pressing and more people seemed to prefer the KG. Isn’t the MoFi from during their smiley face era of EQing?
I don’t have the BG to compare to sadly and don’t see myself buying another copy of the album now. From what I’ve seen, the 30th was cut hotter and some tables and carts have issues tracking it, whereas the BG cut was cut for a wider audience. The 2003 is also supposedly the last pressing to use the original master tapes from what I’ve seen and the BG is not AAA. People do tend to like both though quite a lot.

I have my digital streaming NUC/Roon setup so have gotten quite a lot of CD rips as of late. Some of the Pink Floyd ones sound incredible.I'm sure it's blasphemy here in the AAA thread - but the 2003 SACD is really good, too.

Thanks for the replies. Quite awhile back I mildly got into SACD's then I had most of everything stolen from a moving truck and never got into them again until just recently getting a new CD deck for my rack so i'll probably give that DSOTM SACD a shot considering how cheap it is and I need a few to test things out anyways!
My MoFi has a bit of noise throughout from so much use at this point so that's def. skewing my opinion of it but I also haven't heard it on a great cartridge for a good amount of years so looks like i'll have to give it another spin along with the 2016 soon and re-evaluate. If you do end up doing an A/B comparison at some point i'd love to hear your thoughts! Only way i'd probably grab an 03 is if it was already opened and verified as not having any issues as I remember a lot of talk about the quality control and some being very noisy even after cleaning but if you got a good one it's supposed to sound great.

I haven't gone back to read up on any of the threads on the Hoffman forum, but I seem to remember some talk of sibilance, but I don't remember which release it was about...it may just be something about the release in general and some pressings are just better than others when it comes to sibilance.

The 2003 KG cut is cut hotter than the BG which causes sibilance on some carts. I want to really blast mine this weekend. There was a little surface noise on my copy but also going to give it a clean in my VPI this weekend.
the clocks chiming/bells ringing at the beginning of Time sound so lifelike on this pressing. It’s crazy.
Personally, I like the KG cut a lot. The BG cut is from 24\96 digital, and while BG does a fabulous job, it still sounds digital.
I have the Toshiba Pro- Use. Amazing. Get it.
I was never blown away by the MOFI.

It could have been my setup that I had last time I played it that didn't work with it or something...maybe my stylus/cart wasn't up to the task. Looking at the last time I played it in the Hoffman post I linked to, it looks like I was using a backup Pioneer receiver...could be when my Marantz 2245 crapped out on me.
There are 2 different pressings of this 2003 release, not sure the exact differences though...I have the first one linked below. Looking at the label images of the 2 releases, it could be that they were pressed in different facilities. The first one has Record Industry credited, but there isn't their usual runouts stamped or etched....the other has an Optimal look to it, but it could be anywhere.
This one has no runout matrix of 5821361.
