Definitive Audiophile pressings

At some point he mentions getting emails from fans, and having a constant dialogue with a man from... Germany, so I know it's not @MikeH
Don't you watch the movies. Hackers can do all kinds of shit with computers. Bet there is some poor farmer in Bavaria he doesn't even own a computer but has a restraining order against him for send so many emails

I 100% agree on Rumours; not sure how it would be possible to improve on the original. That and Aja are some of the best-sounding records ever.

Hard disagree on the Beatles CDs though. The 2009 mixes are far superior IMO.
re-listened and he said: "the original CDs they did, other than the fact that the A to D converters were terrible back then, sounded better than a lot of the stuff they have reissued on vinyl". he was speaking somewhat generally-- said he wouldn't have done the stuff with digital files with added compression that they did later on. there are lots of caveats too...doesn't think they all sound bad. thought some of the MoFis sounded good but couldn't entirely remember which ones. he does say those blue and red boxes are his go-tos for vinyl and thought they use the original stampers. they were $65 at costco back then haha.

That was a glorious 4 seconds while it lasted

i did have a very brief moment of panic when i saw that first post and someone's status changed to "woah kevin gray joined the N&G forums!" hahaha.

Does anyone else's The Doors LA Woman AP Press not sound great? Jim Morrison's voice is super like grainy/scratchy/harsh-ish? I always thought it was a shortcoming of my Fluance but now my new turntable is showing the same thing.

Edit: it’s purely vocals, the instruments sound ridiculously fucking good but Jim can sound like he’s singing into cellophane at times

Mine sounds fantastic, one of the best sounding records in my collection.

My second disc sounds way better, upon further investigation it could be the case that my first disc was pressed off center? Spindle hole looks funky

sorry, perfect copy here ;)

edit: just found this thread. My last purchase was Patricia Barber's Cafe Blue double LP from Impex. Record arrived hazy with scuffs all over, but sounds absolutely incredible. Luckily, Zaccardi's is sending a replacement!
Funny thing is I've gotten a few hazy records lately from MOFI and AP and they also sound great. I wonder what's up with that?!

Is that a gap around the spindle hole or just the black of the vinyl? If it’s a gap, the hole might be too big, which can cause the same effect as off center. Otherwise it’s just an off center label.

Hey..check your spindle to see if it’s screwed on tight…I had this same issue with an album recently…one side was fine was was like this and it turned out it was spindle
Was gonna say this too! The spindle screws on and off. Sometimes if a record is too tight and you wiggle it to take it off. The spindle becomes loose and the record slips under it. Although sounds like you had the same issues on your last TT too
