Definitive Audiophile pressings

Simply vinyl has similar jackets. I just store them in a drawer on their own.

Also I love the EMI100 releases. after a certain catalogue number they were AAA. We’re digital prior to that (forget which LPCENT number was the first confirmed AAA).
Yeah I believe it's AAA but as usual the hype sticker is less than forthcoming. But fairly certain this one is analogue. Certainly sounds like it to me.

“The first 20, LPCENT 1-20, were digitally sourced.”

Useful info for other titles in that series
Actually upon second look it's the "Millennium Vinyl Collection" from EMI. So I'm not sure, it's 99 though and those digital releases were 97 sooooo honestly who knows. Everything I'm finding online indicates full analogue... But either way it sounds very very good.

EDIT: After some searching yes it appears it's AAA. Same language on the hype sticker as was used for the AAA EMI 100 releases. Rather than the earlier digitally sourced ones that list "Direct Metal Mastered" on the hype.

Did anyone get the SYEOR The Cure Wish? Just got mine and first impression is the pressing's a mess. GZ. Scratch on side 3. Repetitive static burst in the opening of side 1. And I'm just starting. There's probably more crap. Too exasperated to figure out if it sounds good yet.

I wish they’d stop using GZ on some of these. ZZ Top pressing was pretty bad too. Have to give it an ultrasonic clean and see if that helps any of the noise

Well damn. It’s still unclear whether Target will fulfill the order I placed for it during the last B2G1 sale. Maybe they’re doing me a favor if they cancel it.

Now. Question, this thing comes with one of those scary plastic thick deluxe outer sleeve things that GENERALLY have been known to cause off gassing. It's been sitting in it since 1999. Looks fine, do I store that sleeve separately. Or do I figure it's been in there for 20+ years so screw it, it's fine.
My understanding is the vinyl has to be in direct contact long-term with the PVC sleeve to cause the offgassing. Not sure it'll happen if the record is in a separate inner sleeve. But may not be worth risking it.

There's no way of knowing if it's generalized or not yet, so maybe it was just this copy? That said, it was extremely dirty right out of the sleeve. Dust all over. And these white discoloration marks that bisect an edge - not really sure how to describe these but I've seen them before though most of the time they don't cause sound issues. This time, I think the repetitive static I have is because of it. I think it's baked in and uncleanable, but I'll try.

I thought these were all coming out of Pallas. All the euro pressings are from there, from what I've read. I ordered through Amoeba, hoping it'll ship this week.

Edit: I may be wrong here, could be Optimal.

I've had it go through another jacket and damage an LP sitting next to one in a PVC sleeve (not the one in the PVC sleeve but an LP in a cardboard jacket sitting next to it). Also, the PVC sticker on the sleeve of certain original copies of The Wall are well known to create square marks on the vinyl through the jacket (only on the side facing it) - not sure what the exact circumstances are that causes this because I own a Wall with the sticker and it's ok. All this to say it definitely goes through cardboard and paper.

edit: made some edits to clarify what I mean

This was a US pressing and it's definitely GZ. Makes it even more sad to me that there are some Pallas pressings out there... :(
Just looked on Cogs, the 2022 Euro press says "Made in Germany" , could also be an Optimal pressing. The US SYEOR 2023 pressing says Made in Canada. Is that Precision (owned by GZ)?

Why cant they just tell us where everything is pressed and make our lives easier?

Good to know! Thanks.

Precision would have the same type of runout as GZ so I can't rule it out. But there's no made in canada sticker on my copy.

There is zero chance this sticker is going anywhere. I don't think there's any chance I can get it off of there.

Side note, this is the EMI100 1999 all analogue pressing* and it's REALLY good. It skews slightly bright but in a good way, much more open and detailed than I'm used to with Bowie. Definitely highly recommend this pressing.

*Or whatever "analogue cutting from analogue tapes" means in nebulous marketing speak. That's what's on the hype sticker.
You could always cut around the sticker. Thats what I tend to do.
