Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

Here’s a weird one. So I placed an order for a record on Discogs and a seller sent me a the wrong version, it was a more recent reissue. I did not want that and informed the seller I would be sending it back. The tracking indicates that it was “delivered” on January 8. I get a message this morning from the seller saying that he was out of town this weekend and doesn’t see a package at his residence. I told him to contact the post office to make sure it was actually delivered. He asked his neighbors and they don’t recall seeing a package.

how do I proceed? I just want my damn money back ha!
Sometimes, mail does show up a few days after being marked delivered. I'd say, if he hasn't found it by the end of the week and if he thinks that means he doesn't have to refund you himself, open a case with PayPal and they'll process your refund based on the delivery confirmation

Yeah hopefully for his sake it shows up. I did pay through PayPal so hopefully if he doesn’t issue me a refund, everything will probably turn out alright.

I do not often buy vinyl on discogs. I'm looking for this release since months (years...), at fair price. I've just seen one this morning... is it me or shipping cost are increasing day after day? (ok, it is not a trick... :D)

Its not just you. I think there are a few things:

1. As an American, I've seen shipping costs from Europe increase significantly since COVID-19. I am curious as to whether the post services have increased prices due to the pandemic.

2. My understanding is that Brexit has effected British and European shipping as well.

3. Unscrupulous sellers realize that the "shipping and handling" fee is not taxed and not considered in Discogs' cut, so some sellers jack that up knowing they will make even more money on the margin.

ok. As a seller on other platform, from France to World wide, I can say for sure :
1. Shipping worldwide extended the sending times, but not the price. we had a little increase on jannuary the first, like every year.
2. yes, since 2021 it is a bit more expensive + custom fees for buyers in some case
3. This is actually the most realistic assumption. :(

3 is a very realistic assumption, however I ship to Italy for 24$ and it costs me 23.38$

Edit: Which obviously doesn't cover my packing materials or any handling.

This isn't a Discogs question really, but I figured you all are more savvy to this stuff than me. My wife had two $85 transactions from two different people show up in her Paypal. She never uses it and doesn't even have a bank account attached. I googled this and came up with no scam that this could be. I guess someone put the wrong email in a listing? One person emailed and asked for a refund, which we did, but Paypal charges $.30 so now we don't have enough to refund the other person. No way in hell I'm adding a CC or bank account to this Paypal account and also we changed the password. We called PayPal and they wouldn't refund the $.30 or allow us to refund the person w/o the fee.

Any ideas?

If the other person asks for a refund, give them $84.40, so the fees come out of their end. It was their mistake. Then close the account because that is weird.

I have another question I was hoping someone could help me with. One of the packages that I was waiting on from Canada arrived today! Unfortunately the package was wet and the jacket has water damage. It was listed as VG+ which it now isnt, and its obvious that it was due to getting wet as the card inner they used for strength is soaked. As a bit of extra info, it was put in my apartment buildings parcel store (inside the building) so its not like it was left outside.

What would the best action be? To let the seller know and see what he says?

I would definitely let the seller know. Bigger companies/seller will make it right even though its obviously not there fault. Other than that, unless it was insured or you can get the delivery service to take responsibility, you are probably out of luck.

If it is insured the seller may have to initiate the process anyway.

The other day I mentioned that a package arrived with water damage. I contacted the seller (from Canada) through discogs and he requested photos which I have sent. He is saying that the postal company requires more information including a 'salvage value' and that he will need to look into it. Has anyone else been in this situation?

In the past (as the seller), I partially refunded the buyer after coming to an agreement and then put a claim in to get compensation through Royal Mail (which was a lengthy process but they did end up paying).

The photos and info are to help the seller with their option to file a claim with the post office. This a separate issue/process than the seller refunding you or sending a replacement for an item that arrived damaged and your refund is not dependent on the post office covering their loss.

Ah ok, thanks. So in this situation is it best just to ask if he could offer a refund? I'm happy to send it back if I get fully refunded, it's just I imagine it would cost the seller a lot as it's shipped from Canada. If he offered a partial refund I would likely accept as the record itself is fine, it's just the overall package isn't as described due to the water damage.

Hey! So random question. Someone in New York bought one of rekids. They haven’t paid yet but the invoice included sales tax. Will this be included in the money sent to me and so I have to do owt? Or does cogs get this and deal with that side of things?

IIRC Cogs takes care of it. I believe it comes out of the proceeds along with the Cogs fees. But you definitely don't need to make a separate payment.

What the bird said. Discogs will include the sales tax in your monthly invoice.

How do you adjust the shipping cost? Being a new year, the postal service has as usual upped the cost so i need to adjust the cost accordingly but i can't seem to find where i do this.
