Distortion on CD player

A few months ago I bought a used Onkyo Dx C380 6 Disc Cd Changer. Yesterday when I tried to play some music I got terrible distortion.
Swapped cables, no change, swapped inputs on my receiver, no dice. Dug out an optical cable and sound is perfect.
So the analog out is busted, my question is: should I bother sending it to repair or should I keep using the optical out?

Does it sound better through the onboard dac or now through whatever dac you are running it with?

Sticking with the outboard DAC would be my vote. Assuming you can find a reputable repair person, the cost for repair would be more than it’s worth probably.

Agree. The repair and shipping could easily cost more than a new changer. And the outboard DAC would still be better.

I purchased a newish Integra changer about 3 years ago and I use my Topping D70s DAC with it.

I don't think it's worth entering the rabbit hole of potential problems. Could be the internal dac. Could be the output voltage is super high for your equipment. Could be a wiring issue. Could be an output stage issue.

Anyway around it it probably still wouldn't be cost effective when you have a fully functional solution in place now.
