Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

The rega has that much of a mark up in the US? It’s £650 with cart (£579 without)
here, almost half the price of the studiodeck. I’d have said the studiodeck if can afford it but at that mark up I wouldn’t touch the p3 with a barge pole!
in the US the rega P3 is $945 with no cartridge

and the studiodeck is 1199 for the exact same.. both via music direct

Which is why I don’t recommend Rega for those in the US. It’s a poor value here.
i just wonder because rega P3 is often considered the best started towards audiophile level turntables... what alternative would i go for (again when i go to the jump from uturn with a nagaoka cartridge which im getting soon to a higher audiophile level turntable and cartridge in around 2022)

The p3 is only marginally above the likes of the fluance rt85 or the project debut carbon esprit. And even against them it lacks speed change and lacks flexibility on cartridge choice because of the rega tonearm design. At our prices it’s a decent option at its range at your prices it’s a joke, you can buy their p6 here for minimally above that!

one of the most respected audiophile turntables is overpriced to hell and back here

i just wondered because of the inevitable upgrade to a turntable where i can put in a high quality MM or even MC cartridge and go more audiophile level detail

If you want to experiment with cartridges rega wouldn’t be an option anyway. They are very much designed to use their own brand cats and using third party ones can be fiddly and involve shims under the tonearm.

Also over egging the table. They’re a hugely respected company and it’s a respected entry level audiophile table.

i mean what other options do you have for entry level audiophile.. my uturn is more consumer/prosumer more than audiophile

Im not familiar with those pieces sorry, I know the higher the number the further up the range you’re going. My experience with the piece of theirs that I do have, MX-VYNL, is that it’s a really well build quality piece of gear that sounds fantastic.

Here is a review of each of that helps

If i have read correctly, it looks like the M3si has DAC and phono stage built in as well as different speaker terminals. Say i were to get the M3si, would i still be able to use the MoFo StudioPhono? And it still be best for me to get the Opus3 high output cart, right?

I own the M2si They are essentially the same under the hood. 3i has 10 more watts per channel a phono and a usb input. 2i is just line inputs.

I didn't need anything but power so the 2i was perfect for me. Plus I got it for half of original retail.

DJ's may use the PLX, but it's every bit of an "audiophile" turntable, trust me.
Eh I feel a little unsure

I guess my next step up in a year or so will probably be a project because a jump from like 350 to 1000 dollars is a shit ton and I know they are well respected

@duke86fan , with all due respect, I have a hard time understanding, you ask for opinions, but it seems like you've already made up your mind based on "other" information. I feel like you're just wanting a new turntable and not really an "upgrade", which is fine. I think most of us are just offering opinions based on an actual "upgrade" when you say that's what your looking for, not a slight, lateral move. The U-Turn, Project in that price range, Fluance, their all in the same pool so to speak, so if those are the ones that appeal to you, pick one, it's small differences and personal likes and dislikes from one to another, they're all going to deliver about the same "sound experience".

And if your going to dollars and cent's it..........
U-Turn Orbit Custom / Acrylic Platter-Cue-Grado Black minimum ($350)
Project Debut Carbon $400 (I wouldn't get anything less than the DC)
Fluance RT85 $500

Between $500 and $1000, unless you can find an open box something or a great sale, the PLX 1000 all day in my opinion.

the only difference seems to be stuff like detatchable RCAs and how the plinth is built
Detachable RCAs
Plinth material
Feet
Arm length
Anti-skate design
Platter material
Motor placement
Headshell material
Grounding wire
VTA options
Arm brace
sub platter
Possibly some other things.

I almost couldn't think of more fundamentally different design philosophies at almost every element of the turntable.
