Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Any thoughts on Klipsch Heresy IVs? My brother and his wife want to get speakers for their new house. They don’t want speaker stands but also don’t want gigantic towers. The heresy IVs are the look they want (they would pretty much be the first thing you see when you enter their house), so need to be wood—walnut or oak most likely. Any thoughts or other recommendations? I’d assume a fairly healthy budget…

I’ve heard the IVs are easily the most well-rounded Heresy, though they may find themselves missing low bass (that said, the IVs appear to go below 50hz, so it might be just fine for most listening). Fortes too big?

The teak is purdy on these.
Only con is the small stands (included) but matched pairs...

My brother wants floorstanders and his wife would probably prefer bookshelf speakers haha. So I’m guessing the Fortes are too big but will tell him about those too. They like my Lintons but they are too big and they don’t love the stands.

Thanks for the rec! I’ll try to see if I can find a hi-fi store in DC where they can go listen (and see) some speakers too. Maybe something will catch their eye.

IQ Home Entertainment in Fairfax has a pretty good selection of stuff.

And Heresys are going to be larger than the Lintons, though they won’t need stands.

Love the look of those too but already sent the KLH model 5 to him just to see if they were opposed to the stand. Stands are a no-go from the sister in law ☹️

I think the stands are what my sis in law doesn’t love about the Lintons. She likes the overall style of the speakers themselves. even if the heresys are bigger, she might be more open to them since they don’t take up as much vertical real estate.

Appreciate the heads up on IQ home entertainment! I’ll tell my brother to check it out

Honestly if they don’t like stands that’s bookshelves out the window tbh because you’re always going to want them off the floor and on the same surface as a turntable is just bad vibes.

Are there any Tannoy Heritage models in the theoretical budget. They’re nice looking peices of furniture and I love Tannoy speakers.

i said as much about bookshelf speakers and i think they'll agree to go with floorstanders.

i'm guessing Tannoys are out of budget but who knows! they might be willing to spend more to get the look they want if they also sound great (and I know Tannoys do). I recommended that they go to the shop that @kvetcha recommended so they might make a trip there one weekend and scope some stuff out.

also it's often that my brother buys stuff then hands it down to me so I wouldn't oppose him getting some Tannoys :ROFLMAO:

What about the new Dirty Weekends?
