Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I think it’s retailing a fair bit cheaper than the limited too from my recollection so it’s not all penny pinching for profit.

As a consumer I’d rather pay the extra to get the proper thing.
Agreed, my point being that the wood was a selling point and one of the attractions to the Limited, so I would have to put it in a cost cutting category if they went with a wrap over actual wood as on the limited, there's no other reason to do it.

And yes, I think there was a $600-ish difference, all the more reason to stick with the actual wood and just offer it with the module/s as an option instead of included. I don't believe the cost of keeping the real wood and dropping the module would have effected their profits per unit that much, so again, I think it end up being a cost cutting measure, regardless, I'm with you in that I'd prefer to pay a little bit more for it to be done properly.

Honestly I think done proper would have been a wood box like the old marantz units. I was never that keen on even real wood veneer onto the metal like with the limited…

Question on cables. I have an amp that is setup for banana plugs and I'm assuming I need spade connectors for my speakers. Photo attached of the speaker connection. Not 100% sure what the one connector is on the speakers in the middle? I'm a cable rookie. Any info would help as I'm struggling to find good info online.

You need spades for the speaker end for sure. The middle looks like some kind of proprietary connector. I’m guessing the speaker manufacturer made and sold such a cable at an extravagant price with a list of “benefits” when they were new.

The amp end looks like a 3 way binding post. You can use bananas but if you screw out there will be space to attach a spade and a hole for bare wire.

Agree with @Joe Mac. You could go bare wire on both ends and that should be fine, but you've multiple options on the amp end. If you have speaker wire on hand that's bare on both ends, I'd just go with that for starters. Just be sure the pos. and neg. bare ends don't touch each other once they're connected to speaker/amp (which is more of a possibility on the amp end if you aren't careful because those posts are closer together).

Thanks! I had unscrewed those yesterday and thought that might be an option but never seen these before in person.

My mom was gifted this system from one of her employers who got an upgrade. Any worth keeping?
Edit:
Currently have a Sherwood RX-4109 running to ELAC Debut Reference 2 DBR62

Pioneer Tower Speakers SP-FS52
Polk Audio Subwoofer PSW111
Polk Audio Center CS10
Denon AVR-1912

Everything seems to be in good condition, other than a bit of wear. Thinking of maybe keeping Polk Audio items to pair with ELAC and swap out Denon from Sherwood.

Looking for a shortlist of sub $200 closed back wired headphones. I likely will only ever use them connected directly to my iphone on an airplane. Any advice like always is much appreciated.

I think they wanted to bring it to market at a lower price than the limited so cut one of the MDCs out, but allowing you to buy it separate and add it back, and dropping the real wood veneer. It should have been black metal though as the saving. Randomly the old marantz’s had a vinyl veneer top too, unseen under the wood box, which just seems extra weird to me…
Yeah, but the vintage Marantz had the wood case as an optional extra. My brother’s 2220 had the optional case, my 2270 didn’t.

NAD should really offer the case as an option for those who want it.

@Hemotep the center is an RCA jack. Just get small spades and you’ll be good.
