Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Funnily enough I found it out when I added the khozmo Facebook group after @kvetcha got his and saw Hattor on there too! Their one probably suits what I want out of a preamp more but I really doubt that you can go wrong with either!
it looks great. I sold an old phono stage so used most of that money to buy the Khozmo for my office setup. Wanted to dip my toes into the separate pre/power stages with the Fosi and Khozmo. If that goes well, may do separate power and pre stages on my main rig in the future and would look into the hattor!

Yeah separate pre and power is something I’ve had for a while. The thinking with one of these is that tubes like passive pre stages and it lets me separate the DAC out from the preamp as well. This is the future plan though, the Hattor, a chord Quetest and maybe an eversolo. The early 2025 plan is the new phono/SUT and maybe maybe maybe an upgrade to Super Lintons.

I emailed Arek my source components and asked for his recommendation. He recommended this:

64 steps shunt AMRG +vishay with remote. Said If you need more details and transparency you can choose Zfoil+AMRT.
That's the exact setup I went with, zero complaints.

The Hattor definitely just seems like the big-brother version. Same components but a more elaborate options list. Based on how I've enjoyed my Khozmo I doubt you could go wrong.

............you guys are making me "itchy", lol

By the time I do the phono stuff early next year I’ll have been two and half years being good watching all you guys upgrade lol.

The Hattor, DAC and eversolo would likely end up being another two years down the line. Trying now to more save up and make the upgrades be less often and actual jumps or points of difference.

I mean, it’s a lovely piece of kit, but only if you have a need for a passive preamp. :)

It's more so on separates, I was leaning that way with MF but opted to go with the integrated amp, leaving the option open to adding something like the M6s PRX. All the separates talk just kind of brought those thoughts back around. Never say never, but hard pressed to make any changes at this stage, but to @Joe Mac's point, it's fun living vicariously through others ;)

“This is my end game” he said heheh.

I only went this route because I wanted to try the Fosis for my office setup. Then seemed silly to have my giant rotel used as only a preamp. But now I’ve played a dangerous game…
Oh, I'm end game, don't misunderstand, lol. But again, window shopping and looking into gear as all you move and shake along may make me itchy, but I think I've been able to avoid actually scratching the itch ;)

Yeah I’m moving slowly towards a stage where I’m end game barring streaming, which moves so fast I don’t think endgame is possible, and consumables like tubes and cartridges. The Luna and the Jays CD are definitely there. The rest isn’t far off.

Cartridges are always going to be in flux, so that, and tubes in your case, don't count. I truly am happy with everything, of course, as mentioned the option of adding a power amp is in the clouds, as a far off maybe or if a stellar deal comes along. The only other piece I'd even consider a move to would be the Manley Oasis, but that's not happening any day soon only because I'm sure used and discounted Chinooks are going to flood the market right now, so getting a good price, or at least what I'd like to get for it, is probably unrealistic at the moment. That said, that move is more about creature comforts, like not having to open the chassis to make changes, more than a question of "quality", the Chinook still rocks.

Looking at new gear is always fun, and as I said, it's a gas watching what other do, hear their experiences, but that proverbial "line in the sand" is there for me and it'll take a lot to cross it now a days ;)

The more I read about this little ear yoshino phono box the more it seems absolutely perfect for me. Probably end game unless it’s finicky. Especially the MM version. And it’s fairly enough priced that I can buy some nice NOS Philips 5751 tubes to trim off the gain a little and a SUT for MM and that Pro-ject DS3 one seems a steal given the high end brand of transformers they’re using in it. I’m very excited. Hopefully can do the Super Linton at the same time with the same store as the SUT and a few trade ins. Will have to buy the phonobox outright from Belgium because no one stocks Ear Yoshino here and Brexit Britain 🤢

If there’s one thing that listening to all that high end audio on Saturday really impressed on me, it’s that I’ve probably hit the point of diminishing returns, at least until I have a better room. I don’t think I heard anything there that felt like a palpable upgrade that didn’t cost $20k+.

@Slimwhit33 you really should check out the Audience 1+1 V5s, they’re crazy cool and they sounded massive in a pretty small listening room.

What SUT are you looking at? Even with the Sutherland, which is fantastic, I still think my SUT is the best and most impactful piece in my chain.

That's what kind of had me pumping the breaks when I went to Axpona in 2023. To your point, I think "Better" would entail a custom room, treatments, perfectly set up to bring out the very best in that expensive gear and I'll never have that space...........unless the lotto hits at some point ;)

The Pro-ject Step Up Box DS3 B. It uses Lundahl transformers which I regularly come across being praised and in higher end SUTs. And it’s under a grand for a dual ratio SUT with balanced as an option.

PS: Some needs to be employed by Pro-ject to come up with snappier names for their products!

It’s funny how many people are loving SUTs all of a sudden. I don’t know enough about it to even explore so I’m gonna keep it that way.

Think I’m pretty close to end game on my main rig. Will probably swap out the amp for a Kinki or something and maybe swap the Ares for a Pontus and move my Ares to my office. Then just carts in the future. Have considered a TT with swappable headshell for mono but im probably too lazy to actually do that any time I wanna listen to a mono record.

Really happy with my streaming setup now. And since my DACs all do DSD and I have a lifetime Roon sub, don’t see myself needing to change things up drastically anytime soon.

I think for me increasingly looking at tubes it made a whole lot of sense to go for an MM stage and have a SUT for MC. It does seem that more people are investigating them across the board regardless of their phono and its MC capabilities!

As usual I think @HiFi Guy started the trend…

If I ever do get a new table it will definitely have removable headshell for that reason!
