Son Little - Aloha
My wife and I both got really into this album at different points last year. I would love to catch him on tour when we're allowed to do that kind of thing again!
I've been a fan since the "House of Balloons" mixtape. My daughter is now a fan too. When we were watching his performance at the Super Bowl, we were talking about how it would be fun to go see him together when the pandemic ends. So this is my selection for today. Looking forward to taking my daughter to her first big show. Who knows if it will be The Weeknd and if he'll play nearby when this is all done, but it's a date.
I've only been to Winnipeg once, and that was in late summer when it was muggy as hell out, so I don't really have much of a conception of what winter is like there apart from having endured Ottawa winters and knowing it's worse than that. This solo album from the former Weakerthans' frontman is the best stand-in for a real understanding, having not lived it, because of how vivid his evocations are. It features some re-recorded versions of earlier released songs like "Heart of the Continent" (perhaps my favourite of his) and "Grace General", which opens with the line, "Cruel snow, cracked lips, sun lost by 4." What's more wintry than that? The rest of the songs here also live in the season and explore some of the joy and sadness associated with the season, making for a rich listen.
There is a lot of beauty and a lot of fun to be had in winter too, of course, but seemingly unending bleakness and greyness are what I think of first.

It’s my birthday so show off the coolest music thing you have (memorabilia, merch, record), and spin an associated record.
Happy belated birthday @Poly-Rythmo ! I'm known in my family for being late on birthdays, so the fact that I'm a day off here is no exception.
Going with Kathleen Edwards today. I've seen her twice - the last time was apparently right when things were really falling apart for her in 2012. The pain & pressure was evident in that performance, and she retired from music shortly after that and opened up Quitters coffee. A number of years passed, and she returned to music last year with the release of this album. Appreciate the fact that she's once again releasing music, and it was a no-brainer to pre-order a signed version - one of the few signed albums I have.

Mogwai - As the Love Continues
At this point, I can honestly grab any album by a currently-operating band and it will work for today's theme- I'm just looking forward to seeing a show again!

Iris was the very next show I had tickets for, before everything shut down. I have never seen her, and was so totally looking forward to it...hopefully she comes back around.
Same idea as @ranbalam - the next show I was scheduled to see before everything started shutting down. I really hope to see him soon (with Tyler Childers, too)
I've got a few shows that I'm still holding tickets for - mostly people I've seen before, but I think the one that bothers me the most is the one that got away since I hadn't seen them. Had great tickets to the 50th anniversary 3-D tour, but rather than being postponed they cancelled it. Hoping they plan another US tour once things get back to 'normal'.

Andrew Bird - My Finest Work Yet
A while back on the PIF thread, @Ponman2003 offered up a copy of this album without a photo. Assuming it was the standard edition, I claimed it. Then, when it arrived the box was huge, and I was surprised to find that out wasn't the standard, it was this deluxe edition with a big hardbound book, bonus live disc, and even Bird's signature on the inside! Needless to say, I'm wowed by the generosity to this day.

Built To Spill - There Is No Enemy
Not a big live music scene down here, but looking at the local music calendar, Built to Spill is listed for this summer. It’s them and Gin Blossoms on the calendar which, hey maybe I’ll go to that, too!
Rina had one of the best albums of last year and one of the most impressive debuts in recent memory. She was supposed to have a show at this really cool small venue in philly last year that of course got canceled. Hopefully I can see her there soon!! I would kill to go to a pop concert again and just get crazy lol
