Fresh Grabs

Full disclosure: I hate Walmart.

I saw a potential deal for a Netgear Mesh router about 5 minutes from a client I was working at today, far from home.

Naturally, none were available once I got there. Clerk pointed me to the clearance section (aisles away from computer gear) and I saw mostly crap, but one lonely LP was waiting for me.

Not the most essential Beatles, especially if you have pretty much everything already. But it’s a nice collection and it was only $21 and change. Since I was already in the blasted store, why not?

Reviews say the 2015 mix is pretty good. We’ll see... er, hear.

EDIT: opened it up, it's the 2018 re-re-issue. Pressed at GZ... fingers crossed.

The Michael Legrand is one I have been after for a long long long time but I always refuse to pay the silly prices I have seen it listed for. This copy finally popped up at a reasonable price and I managed to get in there before anyone else did! The Fontaines D.C is one of the only 'New' non-jazz records I have bought in ages, but I absolutely love their first album after discovering it a few days ago and popped in an order for this. My local, Banquet Records, writes a personalised message on a postcard for each record that they post but due to COVID they are running a skeleton crew. They still sent the postcard and a note to explain the situation which is really nice of them. Finally Sauce and Dogs is an obscure and mysterious release limited to 200 copies with each having a unique cover design (al la Sun Ra). The group has not revealed who they are and I enjoyed the sample tracks enough to gamble on the purchase.

This is all the carboot haul and I paid less than £1 for each of these (one bundle of 10 cost me £7). I have a few people lined up that are interested in these kinds of records so I tend to restrict myself less than I used to, clean them all up, play each, keep what I like and pile the rest up. When I have enough I sell them to these people for a quid or two more than what I paid and it tends to cover the cost of what I kept. Anyway, the Dylan's are a great addition and I havent heard them before so I look forward to spinning these. The Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelly were an exciting find and even include the original 'rice-paper' inner sleeves which are interesting. The Oscar Peterson is a series of 4 (I have 2 of the others already) and are his best work imo.

Got to a record store for the first time since March. Truth be told, I wasn’t a huge fan of walking about the city centre, felt very strange.

From left:

Hammered Hulls 7”. New Dischord release for those digging the AoTM;

Fugazi - End Hits. Going to have to get them all in vinyl now!
Jarv is. Limited edition with signed badges!
 
The Stone Roses - Second Coming
Thelonious Monk - Palo Alto
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Neil Young - Homegrown

I adore the Stone Roses, probably the first band I got into myself as a kid. I saw them live just after Second Coming came out and it was one of the best gigs of my life. Second Coming isn't anywhere near as good as their first album but it's a damn good album on its own accord and I realised in last week I had to have it on vinyl. The Thelonious Monk is a real oddity - if you're on the Jazz thread you'll have seen it was meant to have been withdrawn from sale before it came out, but obviously nobody told my local. It's a real shame as it sounds fabulous and comes with some nice extras including a booklet, and replica of the original programme. I hope they can solve the issues and you all can hear soon. Astral Weeks is my third copy in an attempt to find one without non-fill, and Homegrown my second to avoid a warp - fingers crossed.

Cash at Folsom the complete unedited concert 2 LP, uses the MOV plates... I'd imagine a AAA could sound better but this is pretty nice.

The Streets on blue vinyl. Not sure who pressed this, I think Optimal but it's a really good pressing and master. Sounds fantastic.

My good friend through IG who I mentioned before for giving me a tonne of free vinyl has done it again this time with a storage box too 🔥 We hook each other up with any doubles we may have or when one of us is broke and a release drops we sort one another out that way too. In the box is a bunch of classic hip hop 12"s, singles with remixes etc but i wasn't expecting him to give me that Special Edition KOD by J Cole he snuck it in there, Daft Punk & Craig Mack on orange Ltd of 300 🙌
