My mother-in-law told me a story that when she was younger, her friend took her to a Rolling Stones cover band concert. Her friend thought she would fancy the guitarist in the band. When they got there, she ended up being smitten by the singer instead and something 50 years later, they are still married.
My father-in-law also told me that his brother went to Oxford in the early 1960s and worked in the school's department for organizing events. Someone wanted them to book this band from London for one of their big university events. They booked the band a year in advance and paid £100 which was a lot at the time. The band was The Rolling Stones and in between booking them and the date of the university show, the band blew up, had a US tour and became insanely popular. The Stones tried to weasel their way out of the contract but couldn't and ended up performing.
So it's not a shock that my father-in-law had lots of Stones records. He was a big Pink Floyd fan too and saw them live a few times. He was really happy that the records were staying in the family. And he said if any are really valuable and I end up selling any, I have to take him to the pub and pay for it
