Don Rendell Ian Carr 5tet – Dusk Fire (Columbia, 1966 First Mono Pressing)

I have been giddy with excitement since this turned up. It's certainly something I never thought I would own and really is one hell of a record. Someone messaged me to say this was available at a price I could afford and had sold a few other records so I pulled the trigger. One of the rarest British jazz albums and my personal favourite from Rendell/Carr. Once in a lifetime!!

Thanks to @Skalap for the tip on the Charles Mingus, it was one of 2 main albums I was hoping to get on RSD, cant wait to dig in! The Amancio D'Silva is an 'uncovered' historic recorded in 1983. Bobby Wellins was a British tenor saxophonist that worked a lot with pianist Stan Tracey (most notably on Tracey's 'Jazz Suite - Inspired By Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood' album), this copy is signed by Wellins on the rear (would have been better if my name was Dave!!).

Congrats on that Carr / Rendell LP. Great album and your copy looks fantastic!

How is Sapana? I just got Roundtable’s Konkan Dance reissue recently and really enjoyed that.

Scored a 1972 club version. (George Piros)
Looks damn near new.
Vinyl edges still have thin hair like fraying from the plant.

I had a colored vinyl reissue. 2016+
It was warped and had no clarity; almost sounded compressed.
This original smokes it by a mile.
I would put this up against the Mofi.

Still some NM out there.
I came in lower than these, but a solid copy of this one is gold IMO and worth it.

I was fortunate enough to find an early press of the Fillmore East record at a good thrift price, I agree. It's one of those handful of older pressings worth roughly the same as a new pressing that are worth hunting out. Really great listen. Can't compare it to the MoFi but I'm certainly not shelling out $200 to find out.

Yeah, I have no interest in a modern reissue of this album. Would rather pick up an old VG+ though my budget usually steers me toward VG or worse.
