I've been so busy with work and the holidays that I haven't posted here in a month or so and I have been lucky enough to find some real gems.
Bob Downes Open Music – Electric City (Vertigo, 1970 First Pressing)
Howard Riley – Flight (Turtle Records, 1971 First Pressing)
Ronnie Scott – The Ronnie Scott Jazz Club Vol. 1 (Esquire, 1954 First Pressing)
Tony Coe & The Lansdowne String Quartet – Tony's Basement (Columbia, 1967 First Mono Pressing)
Directions In Jazz Unit Directed By Bill Le Sage - S/T (Philips, 1964 First Pressing)
Ray Russell – Live At The I.C.A. (RCA, 1971 First Pressing)
The Victor Feldman Trio – Victor Feldman Encore (Esquire, 1955 First 7" Pressing)
Don Rendell Meets Bobby Jaspar – In Paris (Vogue Records, 1955 First 10" Pressing)
Jazz International - S/T (Vouge, 1957 First Pressing)
First up is a very British jazz-orientated set with some real killers in here. The Ray Russell, Bob Downes, and Directions In Jazz have been on my wantlist for longer than I can remember and I'm thrilled to have found these. Likewise, the Ronnie Scott Esquire is one that very rarely appears so to have found this copy in decent shape is pretty incredible. Talking of incredible finds, the Don Rendell Meets Bobby Jaspar is an incredibly obscure release that I had never seen in person until now despite having read about it online (theres just 3 people with copies on Discogs). The Howard Riley is one of three records released on the 'Turtle Records' label and is a fantastic avant-garde release. Finally, a Landsdowne records release from Tony Coe, 'Jazz International' which despite not having a lead is a fantastic Jimmy Deuchar session, and a cheapo 7" from Victor Feldman.
Grupo Medusa – S/T (Som Da Gente, 1981 First Brazilian Pressing)
Tim Maia - S/T (Polysom, 2016 Stereo Pressing)
Rebecca Vasmant – With Love, From Glasgow (Rebecca's Records, 2021 First Pressing)
The Chronicle Of Jazz by Mervyn Cooke (Thames & Hudson Ltd, 2013)
Graham Costello's STRATA – Second Lives (Gearbox Records, 2021 Pressing)
Christmas was a great success with a few records being gifted to me being the cherry on top. First up I must thank
@Thackeraye again for the fantastic Secret Santa gifts. I listened to both of them (Rebecca Vasmant & Graham Costello's STRATA) and they are fantastic, such great music from musicians that I was unfamiliar with until now. My brother got me a fantastic book for Christmas too, 'The Chronicle Of Jazz', which looks fantastic and I can't wait to dig in. Finally, my brother's Girlfriend is Brazilian and her family picked up a couple of records as a gift for me, which in addition to being incredibly nice of them are also completely my jam!
The Quartet Of Charlie Parker – Now's The Time (Verve Records, 2016 DeAgostini Pressing)
Wayne Shorter – Speak No Evil (Blue Note, 2016 DeAgostini Pressing)
Ike Quebec – Blue & Sentimental (Blue Note, 2017 DeAgostini Pressing)
Vince Guaraldi Trio – A Charlie Brown Christmas (Fantasy, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Exclusive Pressing)
Rahsaan Roland Kirk – Blacknuss (Atlantic, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Exclusive Pressing)
Tiny Grimes / J.C. Higginbotham / Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis – Callin' The Blues (Prestige/Esquire, 1960 First UK Pressing)
Blind Lemon Jefferson – The Folk Blues Of Blind Lemon Jefferson (Riverside Records/London Records, 1954 First UK 10" Pressing)
A few years ago Zavvi had a sale of bundles of jazz records from the great DeAgostini series. I picked up a couple of sets and PIF'ed the ones that I already had. My brother did the same but never got around to listening and ended up giving his set to me this Christmas, so the 3 here (Charlie Parker, Wayne Shorter, Ike Quebec) are the albums that I do not have and will be keeping (the rest are about to go up on the PIF thread). VMP came through with a swap (Vince Guaraldi) and the much-delayed Roland Kirk. Finally, a couple of cheapo ebay wins that were unexpected.
