Yea, honestly, I didn't care about it being a Japanese pressing or not. I just needed a good copy of this album that is woefully OOP. Happened upon this NM copy for a good price so wasn't too concerned about missing OBI.

Yeah I found an Irish OG in my local a few years back for €20. It’s a bit more than I’d usually spend on an OG from my local but it was clean and I’ve never seen another copy in the used bins in a store since. Brilliant album.

Big Pooh - Sleepers (Test Press) - I've been after a clean copy of this for awhile and somehow was able to get the Test Press for about $30.. I need to get more Justus League on Vinyl!

Then the very next day I seen a guy on ebay selling a bunch of test presses and got the following 3 for $11 each.

Bobby Patterson – My Thing Is Your Thing
It Happened At The Hop - Edison International Doo Woppers And Sock Hoppers
Buck Owens – (It's A) Monsters' Holiday

I've been after some good Box Set sleeves for awhile since I moved on from Sleevecity and decided to give the brand i'm always seeing on Amazon a chance and tbh they're mediocre at best for the price.. A 10 pack of 2mill for smaller Box Sets up to slightly over 1" for $20.. The 4mil is $40 for a 10 pack which is bat shit crazy imo at $4 a sleeve.. The search continues.....

Came across Elvira on Amazon of all places for $15 & still sealed.. Another one that was on the wish list for quite some time!

Then Nicole Atkins was 1 of 5 used albums (all but 1 was still sealed) I got in the last Zia sale which ended up being about $50 total including the Yellow Amazon version of Boots and new Tuff Gong re-issue of Cormega.

Lastly, the Vinyl I got from the Best Buy treasure hunt. Seeing everything else I posted in here is making me regret most of these a bit more but at least they were somewhat cheap I guess 🤪

Dave Van Ronk – Folksinger (Prestige Folklore, 2023 Vinyl Me Please Classics Pressing)
The National – Cherry Tree Vol. 4 (Cherry Tree, 2023 Members Exclusive Pressing)

A couple of 'club' records arrived. Had a bit of a worry with the Cherry Tree as it said it was delivered yesterday but was nowhere to be seen....then it turned up today!

IMG_1759.JPG

Phil Seamen With Tony Archer And Tony Lee – Now! ... Live! (Verve Records, 1968 First Mono Pressing)
Collin Bates Trio - Brew (Fontana, 1968 First Pressing)
Laurie Holloway – Cumulus (Hobo, 1979 First Pressing)

Some British jazz heat! The Phil Seamen is up there as one of the worst covers I have seen, but the music makes up for it. I actually have a copy of Collin Bates Trio's 'Brew' but there is a bit of surface noise on my favourite track so this is an upgrade. Finally, the 'Hobo' label was a London-based label that released a handful of albums in 1979 before sticking to 7" releases for a couple of years and then quitting altogether. Two of these records have become crate digger finds and I stumbled across one of them at a local record shop last week. I was shocked to see it priced up at a fraction of its 'going rate' so I quickly bought it. I'm fortunate enough to now have both of the Hobo releases worth listening to (the other being 'Magician' which was recently reissued from a needle drop by Trunk Records). Fantastic music.

As you can see, December was bonkers. Between gifts, sales, Secret Santa, and PIFsgiving arrivals I have been buried in music. I do want to thank those that PiF’ed me some awesome records and @Wes C. Attle for the wonderful Secret Santa gifts. There is lots of quality in that list but a few I wanted to point out Meat Loaf is a white label promo the jacket is well loved but the vinyl sounds splendid. Same goes for The R.E.M. Chronic Town EP my local had two OG copies but I picked the one with the slightly beat up jacket because it was pressed on the Quiex II vinyl while the other was not. The last one is the Johnny Jenkins album it’s an OG pressing and one that I had been looking for for awhile now and was super excited to find in my locals recent arrivals bin. The last of the more interesting additions, along with the 3 wonderful albums Wes got me for our Secret Santa exchange, he also gifted me a beautiful copy of the Pure Moods cassette, something I had been looking for for years.

So that’ll close out my 2022 definitely with a bang. As I have said in years past, I hope to drastically reduce my buying in 2023. I have so many awesome albums in my collection at this point I would like to try to spend more time with them as apposed to spending a good chunk of my listening time spinning new additions. Wish me luck!

Got to the parcel locker after work today and this just felt like a metaphor for my week:

20230120_155853.jpg20230120_160342.jpg20230120_160353.jpg

With water very clear water damage on the wrapper two layers in!

20230120_160513.jpg

Look like it spent at least a few of the 8 weeks it took to get here from Chicago just hanging out in a puddle! Half of the receipt is practically illegible from water...

Morale was low going into this unboxing...

Fortunately, it somehow survived mostly unscathed! There's a crease in the spine and a very faint dish warp that doesn't affect play, but otherwise it's finally here!

My vinyl collection is pretty small that's mainly made up of a few 7” records that belonged to my stepdad and a couple of gifted ones. Bought my own vinyl a few months ago in a pre-order, and it was finally delivered earlier this month! Love Yourself: Her by BTS. I hope they press the rest of the trilogy albums.

BTS holds a special place in my heart even though some people have given me a hard time for liking kpop, specifically BTS. At first, I dismissed them as just another boy band when I learned about them back in 2017 while in Korea for a deployment exercise. However, in 2019 I gave their music a closer listen and translated their lyrics (I currently don't know Korean). I already enjoyed their beats and energy, but I was surprised by some of their lyrical skills, and greatly appreciated their stories. When I got to their Love Yourself trilogy albums it resonated with me. At the time, some parts of my personal life were in shambles, and my mental health and self-esteem were really low. Some of the songs from these albums (and therapy!) helped me realize that sometimes loving others hurts, but I shouldn't give up on myself because I’m still worthy of love and kindness even with my flaws. So even though some people have tried to yuck my yum for liking BTS I will always adore them, and the joy and healing they bring me.

A note on those test pressings! Sundazed gives them out for free with orders over $100 usually, but recently dropped it down to $50 orders. It’s kinda fun to get something random in a box if you plan to order from them anytime soon. Obviously getting ones ya want (instead of mystery ones) for $11 is also pretty sweet!

These pups look to be enjoying being used as models in this picture much more than another members pics ;)

Bull Trout is an album I have been meaning to listen to. I have seen a few Instagram users that are j-jazz collectors state its their favourite.

I was very happy when I saw that a reissue was coming. Then my local couldn't have any copy and I waited too long to buy one from Japan. I got lucky with this shop. Very few reissues are available now, you better grab a copy now if you want or wait for a (possible) repress. I went with the first option.
