Fresh Grabs

Got lucky when a semi-local I hadn't been to before posted their RSD leftovers yesterday. Was able to have them hold Pharoah Sanders and swung by after work.

Found the Gil Scott-Heron in the bins while there.

Unless I pull the trigger on resale prices for CunninLynguists, I have one package in the mail and then that is it for RSD 2025 for me!

I had lined up Brand New for my March record but got burned by IVC. Anyway had a great fallback option ready to go - it was one of my favourite releases from last year.

The Closest Thing To Silence is on a Jazz Label but I wouldn’t really classify this as jazz - a unique blend of modern classical, electronica and even kraut rock. Recommended!
Decided to splurge a bit more this month to pick up a “Blood Records Edition” on an Album that was in my top 5 last year.

For April

Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us

My 15-year-old daughter and I hit up a Record Fair today. Super happy with this haul (plus she grabbed a copy of Queen’s The Game)

But what I am really excited about was stumbling on a sealed copy of The Cure’s Bloodflowers RSD release from 2020. Got this for significantly under anything posted on Discogs.

Fills a Bloodflowers size hole in my collection 🩸🥀

crazy weekend this weekend.

Original UK Pressing of Gang Starr - Daily Operation
Original US Pressing of Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Original 1979 Pressing of Talking Heads - Fear of Music, still in shrink with hype sticker

hell of a weekend.

I still havent opened the copy of Fear of Music. I will, eventually. I am just savoring owning an unopened Talking Heads record that I will be the first person to spin.

Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, Han Bennink – The Topography Of The Lungs (Incus, 1971 First Pressing)
Herbie Hancock - Thrust (Columbia, 1974 First Signed Pressing)
Paz - Kandeen Love Song (Spotlite, 1978 First Pressing)
The Max Roach Trio Featuring The Legendary Hasaan - S/T (Atlantic, 1965 First Pressing)

A mixed bag of killer albums! The Evan Parker is mind-meltingly avant-garde. The Hancock album was an affordable find that subtly signed by the man himself on the cover!

Andy Hay - Equinox (Self-Released, 2025 First Pressing)

The latest superb DIY release from the British drummer. Fantastic stuff!

We Jazz Magazine - Zoning
Mel Torme - Kilburn Programme

A couple of oddities. The latest magazine from We Jazz Helsinki (with an interview with John Surman which looks interesting). The programme/handbill is from 1956 and featured Mel Torme and a British jazz group.

10 Years of Tokyo Jazz Joints - Postcards

The Tokyo Jazz Joints podcast celebrated their 10 year anniversary and released some cool merch. I opted for a T-shirt (still to arrive) and this great pack of postcards with photos taken as part of the project!
