Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

Not sure about the lights. There is a green one in the corner under the Guage. Alarm went off and it kept rising.

But I'm actually realizing g my possible mistake-- Is the oven supposed to be plugged into the temp gage :)
Haha yep. The white box needs to be plugged into the black box. The white box regulates the temperature and turns on and off when it hits your target or gets too far below the desired temp.

Good thing you checked it, otherwise it would have kept cooking and getting hotter and hotter. It should have come with a manual or there’s a simple vid on their site

Yeah, I feel like an idiot but that makes sense. And it seems regulated now. Didn't read the manual closely enough.

Gonna shut it off and let it cool while I walk the dog. Then try a record.

Guess the only other thing is that the Manuel power off doesn't seem to respond to being hitting. Only the app is killing the power. And it gives me a "close fail" the first time I hit it.

Also, what does the little black push button in the back do?

you really need to read the manual lol. i think to turn it off manually you hit power and the wifi symbol or another button at the same time. mine just autoturns off using the app scenes now so i haven't manually shut it off in awhile.

no clue what the button in the back does.

Fair. I read 90% of it while working but was speed reading and clearly didn't fully absorb it. Especially because I started by reading the safety instructions which were a bit mind numbing in their obviousness.

Hitting power + wifi worked f I didn't hold it down, hold it down and just tapped them simultaneously. The app is still finicky as the power off. If it continues, I'll hit up their team to problem solve.

Thanks for the aid.

Mixed results with the Pi so far but also clearly safer.

I've cooked 4 records. The first was a copy of Paranoid that had mildly warped during that heat wave. I cooked it for 3 hours at 125 (including the pre-heat) and it appeared to be in better shape and then reverted.

I also cooked a copy of the new Yves Tmor at 125. It was a minor warp that was improved but imperfect at 3 hours.

I then took a copy of Freddie Gibbs Pinata that Amazon had sent two warped copies of. The first copy, I baked at the 125 for 3 hours to no real progress. But then I took the second copy bumped the time to 4 hours (including pre-heat) and bumped the temperature to 128 and that shit went from quite warped to dead flat. Just played it and it sounded perfect.

My initial conclusion is that 125 is too low for the average warp but that 128 is still safe for bakes way longer than would be safe in the Vinyl Flat. I've never had a Vinyl Flat cook that was completely successful and also left the record without a minor defect the way that just happened with the Freddie.

I'm trying a subtle heat wave wrap on colored wax now. Going with 127 and will do 2.5 hours after the pouch has pre-heated.

you're also leaving it in until it cools until about 75 degrees right? the cool down period seems to be as important as the cooking times. 125 is way too low IMO. i've been doing 132 for 4 hours including preheat, then letting it cool to around 80 before i unzip the pouch, then take it out when its cooled to around 75. have had good results on just about everything.

Yeah, I have been leaving for 6 hours if it was a morning bake and overnight if it was a night bake. I agree that 125 is likely simply too low. But I was following the directions (for once).

Gonna hit the Sabbath at 128 after the colored is out of the way.

i think 128 will be too low for you as well but go for it and let us know!

this is what they say:

  • Generally speaking you're cool to start the bake at 135F if your record is over 125g. Here in the lab we typically go right to 135F on anything over 125g. The exception would be if the record is rare and we want to be particularly risk averse - then we typically try a lower temp at first. Then do the incremental time increase if/as needed.
  • The heavier the record is, you can generally increase the heat. I.e., for 180g you could go up to 140F if 135F doesn't provide results. Always start with 2 hrs, then increase time if/as needed.

Yeah, I remember when you posted this. But the pamphlet that comes with the Pi says 125 should be the starting temp and adds a bunch of disclaimers that anything over 125 can damage the record. Maybe I'll do 129 :p

It often taking two cooks, but I am ready to declare the Pi drastically superior to the Vinyl Flat. Records are coming out sounding perfect versus being at constant risk of subtle damage.
my sweet spot has been 4 hours at 132 lately. has fixed anything between subtle warps and pretty big dish warps.
