I like the aluminum plates, though. Quicker and more even heating/cooling.

You could always plug the Pro-Ject into the smart power supply for the Record Pi. ;)

true--could put it on a smart plug as well i suppose, but the issue you have is if your power goes out, many smart plugs will turn back on and then the machine would turn on again.

not sure about quicker heating...their manual says it takes 1 hour to get up to heat which is the same as the Pi.

Aluminum is much more conductive to heat than cast iron, so all things being equal it should heat more quickly and more evenly in less time with an equivalent heating element. The heating elements here are also top-and-bottom, vs the Pi and the Vinyl Flat which heat a path along part of the bag perimeter.

The Pi is also only measuring from a single point at the center of the bottom plate, so “hitting temp” doesn’t necessarily mean the whole plate has reached the target.

Mind you, I love my Pi and have no plan to upgrade, but there are advantages to this unit (and others like it).

another strange thing--you can't control temp on this one. it only does between 56 and 58 celcius (133ish F and 137ish F)

makes no sense to me. it looks cool though hah. if this had the features of the Pi i would actually consider it...takes up way less of a footprint.

can you control temp and timer with the furutech?

Ya you can set for light medium or heavy warp essentially, that changes the time and I think the temp as well. Generally you use certain settings for certain weights of vinyl etc
 
Furutech also somewhat unique in that the heating only applies to the label and run-in groove. This way you don't affect the grooves and it will never damage the quality of the music in any way (in theory).
