When is the backlash against “The Big Day” is trash backlash gonna start? I think I could jump on the “Well, actually it’s not that bad” bandwagon. I mean there is a lot of stuff going on in this record and not all of it works but there are certainly things that grab my attention too. It might not be a stone classic but there are some nice moments and it certainly isn’t an embarrassment that some corners of the interweb are painting it as. I mean just because it’s not “Acid Rap” doesn’t mean it bad. In a way it reminds me of TLOP in that that album took me a while to warm up to but it was intriguing enough that it kept pulling me back in and ended up one on my favorites of that year. I am not saying it will end up being as well regarded as TLOP but it wouldn’t surprise me if it ended up with a nice healthy number next to my play count once the year ends. Time will tell.

IMHO Chance is fun and positive and feels like he is very genuine in who he is. I also think that over the past 5 years he jumped on that hype-train and road it all the way to the bank. In the process he way overexposed himself (I mean every other commercial on my TV is Chance with Lionel Richie hocking Flamin’ Hot Doritos) Which completely set himself up for this type of backlash. I have a feeling that this reaction was going to be baked into whatever record he dropped. I doubt it will be regarded as his best album but if ya liked his early shit this record ain’t that much of deviation.
I dont think its trash, and enjoy about half the songs, but the songs I enjoy wouldnt rank on an all time Chance song list. Theres just nothing special here imo, which is the major disappointment for me. Whats even worse, most of the songs I do like, I like for reasons outside of Chance. Acid Rap, Surf, and Coloring Book are teeming with life and excitement where most of this album come off flat to me. It's a low 7 instead of above a 9 like everything else hes put out. When is the backlash against “The Big Day” is trash backlash gonna start? No need to apologize, I am not a sensitive soul. I respect a strong opinion regardless if I agree with it. piss takes are welcome!Oh yeah.. I don't really think he is trash.. He has just never done a single thing for me. To each their own and all that jazz. I have not listened to the new album nor will I (probably).. was just trying to have some fun and contribute.
After a few listens, I really like most of it, although I could do without the skits and a couple of bad features. I think it's going to get reviewed fairly well over the next couple of weeks and a lot of the hate will go away similar to Pablo. Some people just arent going to get it though, especially the ones who are still waiting for Acid Rap 2 (even though it's never coming). Its a feel good record about getting married, and it also has a very distinct Chicago sound, so its not going to connect with everyone, but its done very well and I think will grow on some people over time.

Yeah, I don’t see a lot of hate within this thread. It’s okay to not love every project an artist you like puts out.
Everything needs to be trash or some type of overreaction these days, but for me at least, there’s probably a couple tracks I’ll add to a playlist but I don’t love the project right now.
Another great thing about music is maybe I’ll revisit this later on and fall in love with different songs whether I’m in a different headspace or looking for a different sound at that time
a low 7 is extremely high for this album..
If they cut all the trash off this album it wouldve been a great EP but as a full project its sitting like high 4/low 5 for me
but maybe itll grow on me.. it made me cancel my idea of buying the vinyl preorder tho immediately lol
Thanks fam. I had a Fat Beats credit so I grabbed this and that “new” Biggie 7”. Think this is the only Gibbs album I was missing.if anyone is interested FatBeats has this on sale for $20+shipping

This chance album does have some lame af elements lol like christian hiphop style vibes or like if the wiggles did a hiphop album haha jkz
but I think if they cut alot of the trash out it would be a solid project.
I am starting to see why it seems everyone hates this album more n more tho
EDIT: I was gonna buy this but nah its a hard pass.
What do u think of it @Jonathan Y you was the most excited for it i think lol
For whatever reason, reading your post, the just went off; The title The Big Day = Wedding Day hence the wedding skits. Duh, I’m a big dumb idiot. I am not saying I enjoy them necessarily any more but they make sense within the scope of the album title.Despite the majority of negative opinions that came within the first 12 hours of the release. I told woob yesterday that the first half had some misses and the back half was tought after a listen and some change. Going back i think the back half has misses as well but this thing is dense as well like I mentoned. There are some fire quotables in here. The more serious songs like We Go High are amazing imo. There are alot of emotional highs which is to be expected! The guy is winning!!!! My coworker is an attorney who went to school with his manager Pat's brother, and she said Pat told them Chance is the happiest hes been since he was a kid. So to say its too high energy or too positive is nuts.
When i think about the full circle aspect of the first four albums i see how much Kanye influenced him. From 10 day to now its like College Dropout to what wouldve been Good Ass Job. He wanted to finish the cycle with a "debut" that was based off his big day and I think he did great. Nowhere near a classic but not trash or unbearable at all
Also im listening again now and its better than last time. Im hearing more of the bars. His brother Taylor killed it too
Kanye's Monster is almost ruined by Jay Zs verse, thankfully Nicki comes and saves it.What are some dope songs ruined by guest verses?
I'll start with this one

What was OME thinking!?!? This shit would've easily been my favorite Milo track if his shit was just replaced or cut
The way he says love almost makes me want to abandon the concept of the word all together. It might be one of the worst verses in hip hop history imoSASQUATCH
GODZILLA
KING KONG
LOCH NESS
Hov's verse never bothered me to be honest.
