Sorry if this is spam for posting the same story here as the Now Spinning thread, but I'm seriously so hyped that I was able to finally hunt down my white whale! And I think more people might appreciate it here because it's hip-hop 😁

I started collecting vinyl in 2016 and this was one album I thought would be really cool to have since this is always in my summer playlist, but at the time, I was in college and copies of these records were selling for $50+. Back then, I thought spending $50 for a record was expensive... silly me. Fast forward to 2019 and I'm now graduated with a full-time salaried job, so I decide to look to see what these things are going for. Little did I know in the span of 3 years, this album has become impossible to find (not to mention less than 80 people have this in their discogs collection) and the only copies on Discogs are priced between $250-$400... To me now, $50 for a record is NOTHING, but $300? That's a completely different story.

One day, I see a post on reddit and someone is selling this album for $200-$250, can't remember exactly. Considering this was only the third copy I had seen listed for sale that year, I decide to bite the bullet and message him to buy. We work out a deal, but the morning he was going to ship it to me, he sends me a message saying that he tripped over his cat while heading down the stairs to take it to the post office, and when he fell, he landed on the album and the records cracked. I was devastated to say the least... From the time my money was refunded for that album and about a few weeks ago, I hadn't seen a single copy of this album listed for sale on any site AT ALL. Thanks to an extremely fortunate google search though, I was able to find this copy for sale on a Polish site, but the seller was only shipping to Poland. I messaged him to see if he'd be willing to ship to the United States, but I never received a response. Again, my heart sank.

As a last ditch effort, I make a post on the Polish subreddit asking if someone would be kind enough to purchase the album for me and ship it to the states. I didn't think I'd get any biters but someone reached out to me almost immediately and said he frequently sends vinyl to his dad in the states and had no problem getting this album for me. Fast forward to today, and the album arrived in the mail & I couldn't be happier!

This might just be another hip-hop mixtape to many people, but for me, this album has gotten me through a lot of summers and a ton of memories have been made with this in the background. It's got some of the freshest west-coast sounding production I've heard, and killer features including Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs, Too $hort, and Rick Ross. It just takes me back to those high school & college days, definitely holds a special place in my heart. And I know the term white whale can be thrown around pretty loosely, but based off the story I just told, I think this is appropriate usage. God, I love this hobby, and I'm sure many of you have some crazy stories, maybe even crazier than mine! But words really can't describe how happy I am right now, and how grateful I am I was able to connect with that reddit user. Cheers everyone!

TLDR: Found my white whale after 2 years of seriously searching after passing up numerous opportunities to buy this album in college. I am very happy that I can remove from my wantlist and add to collection.

What a clumsy fk.

Dude right? Like I couldn't believe what I read when he sent me that message. I still have no idea if he was telling me the truth or just decided to either sell it to someone else or keep it for himself. All I know is that my luck is absolutely terrible and I feel like that's only something that could happen to me 😂

damn fam that’s a crazy turn of events. tripped over his cat? Did he show you proof that it broke? I feel he regretted his decision and made that shit up lmao. Either way that was A dope read. Everyone has their white whale tho, I Think so far mine is Big KRIT - 4eva is a mighty long time. I can’t find a copy for shit and have only seen it for sale in the high 200s. Also, this just reminded me how long it’s been since I’ve listened to Dom. I got into him back during the release of Pilot Talk albums from Curren$y and during that era then fell off his music for some reason. Where do you recommend I pick back up?

I probably should have asked for proof but I think I was so shocked I got that message, I didn't even think to ask. I also think I didn't ask because I wasn't sure if I even wanted to spend $200 on an album at the time so I was happy to have that $200 back in my bank account. I think it didn't hit me until 6 months later though and I hadn't seen any other copies listed where I realized I wish I would've had the album instead of $200 😂

Not purchasing that KRIT album is also a huge regret of mine as well. That was one of my favorite albums of 2017 and it's not like it was hard to come by. It was just one of those albums that "I'll get around to purchasing eventually" and just never did. Kinda surprised it went out of print out of nowhere and is selling for as much as it is now. Hopefully they'll repress it soon (same with Return of 4eva... also regret not buying that one) 🤞

And you'll probably laugh at this, but Dom Kennedy's music he's released post-By Dom Kennedy is some of the worst music I've ever heard. Seriously, I can't believe someone who released Yellow Album would release something like Best After Bobby 2. It's like he's either become un-interested in rapping or just forgot how to flow, it's sad really because he was one of my favorite rappers from the blog era. Anytime I see him on a feature, I say a prayer that he doesn't ruin the song (yes it's that bad). With that being said, I would still highly recommend listening to Yellow Album, From the Westside With Love II, Get Home Safely, and From the Westside With Love if you haven't heard any of those. By Dom Kennedy isn't bad but it's really the start of the end. But all of those are still ESSENTIAL summer tapes in my opinion. He was never the most lyrical but his flow was unmatched, which is why it hurts to listen to his new music that much more. Basically stay away from anything he released after By Dom Kennedy unless you want a good laugh.

Well shit. My Mac Mall showed up today pretty beat to shit. I fear for all of my other outstanding orders that are getting bounced around

I don't know about the rest of your orders, but the Vinyl Spot packaged these like trash. The vinyl spot told me that they are following up with their "mail company" about this.

Damn, that's crazy to hear about Dom. Although, to be fully honest, that is not the first time I've seen a Dom fan say that so it's definitely true I suppose. I never listened to the half a mil stuff because I remember it sounding generic. I loved his old smooth sound. He could flow through every damn beat so smooth. Might just start listening to the old stuff again then haha.

I really do hope they repress that KRIT album. I only have the Underground collection he pressed with all the mixtapes but that album is a must for me.

FOMOOOO! So Da Rap Winkel had 476 copies of this record for sale this week and all of a sudden there are now only 100. If DRW wanted to create fomo at least they could have left a '94' or '78' instead of 100.

They're probably going to distribute copies to retail stores...

TL: DR - the internet rules.

Awesome of some random person on a polish subreddit to do that for ya!
