Hip Hop

Ok one more for today, this project is fire and this kid is only 16! Sounds similar to mavi, navy blue and maxo, but has a little more energy.

yo I checked this one out because of you yesterday and thought it was dope. Looking at twitter right now, hes trending because fantano reviewed it and didn't have nice things to say apparently. haha

Fantano is embarrassing himself. He's a grown man subtweeting a 16-year-old and throwing a tantrum. It seems like he's let being internet famous go to his head. When it comes to online critics, Dead End Hip Hop are a way better alternative imo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Eh, I think all his tweets were directed at outrage twitter, not redveil. I strongly disagree with him on it, but I learned a while back that he just doesn't like anything you could say remotely "sounds like Earl" for some reason, so I'm not sure what they expected. If he panned Mavi and MIKE...

Also, aren't we all guilty of saying nah and turning it off every once in a while to new music? Just seems overblown to me

I'll never understand why people get upset at reviewers though, so maybe I'm just weird.

I definitely read some of his tweets as being directed at Redveil, but I could be wrong. Either way, he's handling the situation very poorly, I think he maybe needs to take a break from social media or just from the internet altogether. I've noticed for a bit that his social media presence has become more defensive and passive-agressive/inflammatory towards his detractors and it's just not a very good look. I've not watched his actual channel in some time but usually when people start lashing out on social media you can see a decline in the quality of the content they put out too. If this behavior starts seeping into his videos, it could be really bad.

I think that's fair. I do think it's worth noting that a live stream track reaction is completely different to his channel reviews where he actually puts effort into them. I have no interest in ever checking out anything he's done other than his more formal reviews though (even then I don't usually agree with scores), so maybe that makes it easier for me to ignore that stuff.

Meant to say it in the last tweet, but I definitely agree on preferring DEHH.

I do get why some people would be, particularly in the internet era, where getting panned by someone like Fantano means a legion of his moronic teenage fans now think you're trash and you probably become more notorious for having a project he disliked than for the music you make yourself. I do think criticism is important but I also dislike lack of variety of thought and opinions and the crossover of influencer and critic that he represents is a bad thing imo. Sorry for the fantano rant haha

I think that is true on one hand, but getting that "bad" publicity has also helped artists. I think Dan Le Sac commented on the controversy by saying the only reason he got to tour the US is because P4k gave him a 0.2. I would be very interested to see how sales of redveils albums were impacted today.

I don't understand why people seem to get more upset at Fantano than they do at a place like Pitchfork either, except that he is someone they feel more familiar with and that they can directly engage with him and he will respond (often pettily). I don't think about him or treat him any different than any reviewer. But, I don't understand why anyone would give a shit what an "influencer" thinks either, so again my perspective is probably not the norm.

I don't mean to gloss over the bullying part. I wish it wasn't a problem and it is the absolute worst thing about the internet, but because it is so pervasive I have a hard time blaming Fantano for that I guess and instead blame all the awful keyboard warriors.

This is definitely a big factor yeah

I think the problem is that his fans kinda do, which is obviously not explicitly his fault, but a large portion of people I've come across that are fans or his/take his opinion very seriously use him as the only source for music criticism and their opinions often also conform quite strictly to his as a result. Combining this with some of the more toxic traits of internet posting leads to some interesting outcomes which I would assume can be frustrating to artists. Again, I wouldn't call any of this his fault but when you cultivate and profit off a following it seems like some people will expect you to be responsible for their actions

Yeah, I think I agree with you there.

His fanbase is absolute shit. If I ever make the mistake of looking at comments on his tweets or videos, when I do check them out, I instantly regret it. The worst.

For anyone that was curious, the pressing is supposedly /1000 on madesicc's version of Season Of Da Siccness.

Anyone have any opinions on Brad Blackwood who did the remastering on this? I was looking at his work and it seems like he has done some pretty big releases but hardly any hip hop at all and I don't own any of the albums he worked on in the past I don't think.

I'm hoping for the best on this one but not gonna lie it looks low budget asf, hopefully I don't regret not getting the de rap winkel version.
