Home Improvement Thread 2: Electric Redo the Loo

I like the idea of a black matte ceiling. But it's hard to imagine the finished product from these pictures. White is classic, but I like a bit more bold, especially in a bathroom.

Totally, the bathroom will be finished without the ceiling painted next week, so it will just be white but dirty as before, I’ve got to sort the paint and painter for that out separate. I might judge it then.

It’s going to be black slate effect tile and shower tray on the floor with white Matt tiles with a grey marble vein effect on the walls.

Black ceiling will definitely make the room feel smaller, that's the only thing.

You probably don't put on makeup, but a white ceiling would work better with the ambient light, I think. It's the one room I'd go classic.

You guess correctly! Just a pit of hair fixing and shaving are done in my mirror!

Appreciate the feedback though, really just have a head full of ideas and am trying to crystallise them!

I have another home buying question(s), was a dedicated listening area mandatory in your purchase ? This is for me but also severely limits potential homes, where we live that means a split level home (because of the second “living room”), a house with a finished basement would also be great but those are few and far between (at least without significant work). This is really the only “must have”, am I being to rigid? Outside of not having a “landlord” the ability to use my stereo again is WHY we are buying a home so I feel I’m on the right track but am seeking insight or advice.

If I was buying a house and I was an audiophile there is no world in where I would put up so much cash and not feel excited about my listening space, but us audiophiles are also a notoriously complicated bunch 🤣. Is it rigid to people who think AirPods sound amazing, 10000%, but amongst us…. No sir do your thing

That’s what I was looking for, not so much confirmation, but acknowledgement that I’m not being a “snob”. To be fair we have very few “mandatory” options outside of the listening area.

An extra bedroom may also fit the bill. Just saying (I have the extra living room so I’m all set)

I just needed to have a finished or unfinished basement so that there would be an opportunity to create the space down the road. In the mean time the system went to the livingroom.

I am envisioning having all my records and my setup in one room so no bedroom in a home within my budget is likely to accommodate this. I used to live in the second living room of a split level house and that would be great.

This is a great strategy, I just don’t see being willing to make the compromise unless it was move in ready, I’d rather wait and save more until something that accommodates is available. If the market stays the way it is I don’t see needing to rush any part of the purchase and am likely still 12 months away from beginning the process formally, it may seem arbitrary but I really want to own a home before I turn forty in six years.

Yeah, for whatever reason our house has two living rooms. It was built in the seventies so i have no idea why other than for partying? Anyhow, the formal living room which is sunken is the record room, in the center of the house. It being a single story ranch house, with a somewhat open floor plan, who needs Sonos or multiple systems? It is real nice having the whole collection right next to the rig.

The seventies is when most of the split level homes in Tacoma and the surrounding areas were built. My mothers house has an entry landing where the living room (for entertaining) is to the right or you go ups stairs to the kitchen and dining area which is open above the living room with cathedral ceilings, downstairs to the second living room (for television) utility room, half bath, garage access and backyard access. I have no use for any bedroom other than the master, we are a DINK household.
