Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

I'd be surprised if you got much disagreement on this forum.
I'll say the first several episodes weren't too bad until I realized all the jokes were the same and there wasn't any character growth.
The show was popular enough to last way too long

A group of white people in New York that inexplicably live in lavish apartments has very rarely been a good premise

Not to mention the fact that any non-white person on the show was a LCD stereotype.

Also, it's a toss up between Mad Men and Breaking Bad for the most overrated television show of recent history.

Not sure how hot this is but saw a lot of love for Santa Clarita Diet and wow, that show is awful.

Christopher Nolan is nowhere near as good a director/writer/idea man as people will have you believe.

I agree with you on friends.

I hate Breaking Bad

But I love mad men....

And I’ve loved every Nolan film I’ve seen...

And he regularly casts Cillian Murphy and he’s an amazing actor...

My take for today

Pesky Blinders is the best thing on tv and has been for a number of years now!

Mad Men is the most overrated show ever. Is a TV show about people that talks and talks and nothing relevant or interesting happens.

Santa Clarita is ridiculous, but I think everything is on purpose. It is not trying to be something more than what it is, unlike some other shows that believe are awesome and are actually horrible (Crazy ex girlfriend).

I've enjoyed every Nolan film I've seen too right back to Following (which I own) but his shit really ain't that smart. People treat it like he's the first one to do something like Inception which he clearly isn't.

Also, Pesky Blinders sounds like a terrible spin-off to Peaky Blinders which is a great show. But holy shit that last season wasn't good. Adrien Brody was terrible as a mobster.

I don't think I made it 15 minutes into the first episode of Santa Clarita before I had to turn it off, I thought it was that bad. But hey, at least it got me to watch about 5 more minutes of it than Baby Driver (which I can't quite explain how terrible a movie that is)

I never pretended I could type 😜

I didn’t mind the last series but Brody was camping it up big style (the scene with him and Tom Hardy was hilarious...) and the less said about Gillen and his fucking wandering accents the better!

Friends and Big Bang Theory were/are bad, but all older TV shows that you binge now instead of watching weekly seem to move so slowly. They had to remind you what was going on last week.

Finally, a scorching take!

Realistically speaking, Breaking Bad was The Wire Light for people who feel uncomfortable around black people / culture.

I mean, I love that show and especially Hardy <3 .. but the Brody thing wasn't even camp to me.. it was like he saw Marlon Brando in The Godfather and decided that was the only way to play a mobster. And also must have a toothpick/match hanging from his mouth even in the midst of a huge gun battle ??

....what!?

People who say Breaking Bad is the best show ever are simply ignoring the far superior The Wire because black people/culture make them feel uncomfortable. It's the only rational reason why a show that is vastly superior (The Wire) can be compared to a vastly inferior product.

Man, this is a hell of a reach. The only reason they are compared is because they are two of the greatest TV dramas ever. If anyone says Breaking Bad is great and the Wire sucks, you might have a point when them, but I've never heard that opinion at all.

Edit:I agree if they are ignoring the Wire, they need to wake up.

I've met countless people who have told me Breaking Bad is the best show on television and who have 0 interest in The Wire. You may think they're very different shows but I don't think they are at all. One just shows a cushy white drug dealer's life while the other one doesn't.

Well you can judge them accordingly but I don't see what that had to do with Breaking Bad. They aren't remotely similar shows in tone or theme. Breaking Bad is primarily about a man's descent into evil. The Wire is the best detective show of all time that also excellently shows the other side.

I hate Breaking Bad and love The Wire this is a stinking take sorry.

The Wire was an ambitious and large attempt to cover socio-economic problems, their root causes and the fact that the broken system creates a vicious and self perpetuating circle.

Breaking Bad was a character study of an uninteresting egotistical narcissist who didn’t do it all for his family but to engorge his already rampant ego. He destroyed everything and everyone around him without remorse and wasn’t even that entertaining in doing so.
