Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

Ok, ok, I had to set the 70lb behemoth up first and get it warming up.

So, I got this used from TMR, as well as traded in a couple items to make the cost doable.

It's an Ampsandsound Nautilus tube power amp. 8 Class A SET watts using KT88s. Everything is overbuilt to the hilt, including the 44lbs of transformers (rated at 20 watts). 12 guage cold rolled steel. It really needs the pelican case it came in. I'll start listening soon....

I know it's awesome when I don't even understand the labeling on the front of it, and whether they are inputs or something completely else. Looks sick.

So its a combo headphone amp and integrated speaker amp. The front dealies are headphone jacks that are tied to specific transformer windings, so you can find the best match for your headphones. There's a switch on the back to output to the speaker jacks on the back. I barely listen to headphones, but maybe I will more now.

I'll be bypassing the internal volume pot and running my preamp thru it, which is recommended by the maker.

It's completely hand built, point to point wired, yadda yadda. If it's an extra thing that they could do, to max out sonics, it was done.

Very cool. So what is your pre amp doing now if this one is integrated?

I'm gonna use my preamp and bypass the internal volume pot, which is the recommendation from Justin, the guy behind the company. I LOVE my preamp too much to not use it. I will eventually try it without though
Definitely looking forward to your impressions. I love hearing about fancy gear that I will never own because tubes would do my head in so I can just enjoy the thoughts without actually concerning myself with what I may be missing out on...

OMG this thing sounds MASSIVE. The stage is up into the ceiling. Its wrapping 5 feet further to the sides. Its IMAX.

Fantastic!

The Reed 2G arrived today. It looks beautiful. I was also rear ended at a stop sign on my way home, so there’s no way I’m attempting to mount it tonight, or even take it out of its very nice box. My hands are still shaking.

But, I thought I’d share preliminary pics.

A cool side note, looking through the manual Reed uses the same turntable I have for demonstrating how to mount it. That’s got to be a good sign.

Congrats and bummer at the same time. Best to rest up before digging into the box.
