Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

There’s an aviation company here in Denver that a friend of mine works for named Sierra Nevada. When my friend went for her interview one of the first questions asked was, “You know we aren’t the beer company, right?”

Proper response...
Wow I'm shocked! So this will pay a lot better than a brewery? Right?

😂

You’ll get it sorted I’m sure. Those speakers look gorgeous down there! Very nice basement.
Thanks man. I gotta say I was not expecting them to match everything as much as they do. Once everything breaks in I think this is going to sound really nice. Even without any correction or break in its not nearly as echo'y as I expected. I think this will be easier to tame than I had expected.

So, the secret entrance to the underground railroad is behind that rock wall, right?

You all must be quite happy to see the lengths @Mather is taking to kit out the basement so you feel welcome there. 😉
Yes, secret passage that drops down to sub basement C. The goblins keep an eye on things but generally are amenable as long as you don't mention Steely Dan.
I CANNOT STRESS THIS LAST POINT ENOUGH

I considered the Heresy's before I landed on the L82s, but I should probably hear these in person before I ever consider them. Because everyone hates or loves Klipsch and nothing in between.
Yeah I think it's really amp and room dependant. But it's also just personal taste I think. Like I've had one shop owner tell me to never ever pair these speakers with anything but tubes and specifically to NEVER pair it with the Lyngdorf, but then online reviews say otherwise and Darko literally had the same amp I have driving these exact speakers as his home system for a while. And after listening last night with literally nothing broken in and no room correction set I can already tell these are going to be a good pairing. So I mean...

Are you saying that audiophile/hi-fi is full of subjective opinions guised as fact? Surely you jest...

People who don't like horns tend to have to be dragged kicking and screaming toward saying anything complimentary about Klipsch.

Like, they're not for everyone, but I think as the standard-bearer for horn-loaded speakers Klipsch gets treated very dismissively in some circles.

Yeah I think in a lot of cases it's just people not knowing how to set up their own rooms and systems. Like by all accounts the IV heritage series has pretty much done away with any horn harshness that people seem to have issues with. So if your speakers are screaming at you then maybe you gotta look at what's driving them. Or what's going on in your room.

Run away from any dealer that is as strongly opinionated as the one you mentioned. That’s my opinion. 😜

Yes I agree. He's a prickly guy. He makes me laugh but I definitely take what he tells me with a grain of salt. He carries great stuff but I think he's got some pretty hard lines of thinking about these things that are best taken as a viewpoint to consider rather than gospel.

I will say, I listened to some of the floorstanding orange cone Klipsch while auditioning speakers (RP_8000F or something) in a treated room in a hi-fi shop and they sounded so harsh and bright and gross like I was scraping forks on plates. So the Klipsch reputation can definitely be earned. But the Heritage line seems to be of a different breed than the orange ones so I can't speak to how those sound.

This. The Klipsch line up is bifurcated between the Heritage line and HT/Best Buy/big box line that most people hear. I’m more of a JBL guy (I grew up in SoCal after all), but the Klipsch Heritage, especially well set up and on tubes, can be awe inspiring.

Well-designed horns will not have old-design horn colorations. The Klipsch “mumps” were an important stride in reducing colorations in their designs. The speakers from Volti appear to perform well, too.

There really isnt a comparison between the Heritage line and the Best Buy home theater lines. But I think this is exaggerated because most people that buy the Best Buy stuff also run them with Best Buy type HT receivers that don't necessarily bring out the best in the Klipsch.
